I too live in a house. Although it's modestly-size by modern standards, I am realizing that with one child in college and the other not far from that status, there are rooms in my home that get little use. However, we do tend to spread out in them! Oh the stuff, the stuff! In the western rural U.S. it isn't unusual to know people who use extra rooms to store stuff they don't know what to with, though thank goodness my hubby and I broke that habit years ago (ignoring the garage, OK!) There is no way I can complete the January Cure this month — my big project — cleaning and organizing the kitchen cupboards, is still not done. It took me most of one day to clean out less than half the cupboards and organize the pantry. It probably would be doable if I didn't work. Coming home during the middle of week with a Cure chore on the list, along with the other things that need to be done isn't an option most nights. And in January, it seems I'm more interested in hanging out in my chair for some Pinterest "future project" therapy, But I'm still determined to get the Cure completed - or at least the items on my priority list — by the end of February as I am hosting Bunco in mid-March. Loved the how-to hang art post, by the way! I think I will add that one to my must list for the Cure. It will be interesting a year from now to look at this year's list of accomplishments. The first item on next year's list may involve a bottle of wine!

Final Stretch: The 60 Minute Quick Clean

Aahhh! A task I can complete within a short amount of time. I did a purge of sorts in November in both the master bath and bedroom, but there are a couple of hot spots! My desk and dress can use some tidying. I already changed the sheets yesterday and flipped the mattress last week. The closet just needs a nip and a tuck and I bought two plants a week ago, so I could put them in a pretty pot. Oh and that curtain rod that's been guarding the French doors might just get a new home. Hmmmmm. Maybe I will have extra time to work on the cupboards, pantry and landing spot. Hopefully.

This should be easy. I don't watch TV on Wednesdays, the iPad and remote for Apple TV have been stashed for months to reduce my 13-year-old daughter's media habits and the laptop, well that depends on whether my daughter has homework. I've taken up the old craft of rug hooking so the TV may be on for music, but that's it. Besides that, I am still working on Assignment 9. The Landing Pad is in the laundry & mud room, which also serves as the pantry. The space is long and narrow about 6x13 feet and has two doorways. I am trying to figure out how to incorporate a space for storing recycling materials, the shredder, a place to land mail, a shelf for hanging laundry, etc. Maybe it will be finished by next year's Cure!

Will jump on plans with BFF to do some crafting, make a few vegetarian meals for the freezer and begin watching the first season of Downton Abbey. Feb. 1 or 2 sounds good.

January Cure: Assignment # 8

This was Assignment 5 on my list. I thought it would be easy since I "organized" the cupboards a year ago, but I should have paid closer attention when I realized I was out of cupboard space and I have a large kitchen. It seems I forgot about the vitamin/medicine cupboard a year ago. This took me most of the day to do, not a couple hours! I had to rearrange bookshelves to relocate cookbooks out of a kitchen cupboard, then moved wine glasses to my laundry room pantry, moved regularly used food items from the pantry to cookbook cupboards, cleaned out the med/vitamin cupboard and added tea and drink mixes to it. The pantry, half of the kitchen cupboards, refrigerator, floors and counters still need attention, but at least now I know what lies ahead!

I will declutter and re-organize my kitchen and laundry room (pantry cupboards). They are stuffed to the brim and I am having problems putting things away. Not all my cupboards are messy since I reorganized the kitchen about two years ago, but the ones that get the most use are getting a little scary.
