The bread should be warm. The jam should be cherry and spread generously. Strawberry jam will do in a pinch. Definitely not grape. The peanut butter is better creamy.

Butter just sounds gross. But I'm willing to try some salt. I do like to eat my PB&J with a bag of potato chips.

We have the bjorn bouncer and used the hell out of it until she started sitting up on her own. I still us it occasionally. As for the other stuff (jumpers, swings, etc.) we went without. I never really felt we needed them. They are really just a place to plop down the kid when you need to get something done. Since we don't have much room, we just used the bjorn for that (it has a toy attachment and I tried to entertain her with whatever I was doing if it was for more than a couple minutes).

Otherwise, I was on the floor playing with her or else carrying/wearing her.

Wow -- looks like a bunch of comments got deleted from this post. That's pretty messed up. People can't express a political opinion? I don't think the missing posts broke any of the community rules (at least not the posts I saw). Make me respect AT a lot less all of a sudden.

These tips kind of suck. Here are my (I think) unrelated gripes: A) Allowance shouldn't be tied to chores. Kids do chores as members of the household. B) Nothing wrong with welfare. Those of us that have and are able should provide for those of us that don't have and are not able. Seems like parents (who have money and are able to work for money) should provide for their kids (who don't have money and aren't able to work for money). That doesn't mean just giving them money and not teaching them how to manage it properly.

I honestly can't remember if I received an allowance or not. I must have though. I do remember that I was expected to help around the house as a member of our family. And I expected to get my first job as soon as I was mature enough and legally allowed to. I started working at 15.

I really do not like that room at all. It looks so messy and haphazardly put together.

slightly off topic, but question for baumgak - did you find a daycare in your city that will do cloth diapers? this is my only concern about the whole cloth diapering thing. becaise if they won't do it at daycare, is it worth doing it at home?

and as for the questioner, while i share your concern for the enviornment, get over yourself. if it's such a moral dilemma, don't go.

Just made this and it was delicious!! But I had the same problem as jamimess and Laurie2125... no egg ribbons, just tiny little bits. I was also thinking that maybe I poured the mixture in to quickly, but not sure. Any thoughts?

if you're the owner of either of those first two rugs, please share where you got them from!! i'm desperately looking for a rug similar to either of those for our new place.

i totally agree, by the way, that rugs are super important. they can totally make a room. right now we have a limited budget and need a few things, but i'm planning to spend money on the rug and hold off on the others.

Thank you for the suggestions! Braised meat sounds like a good strategy. And that kale salad looks delicious -- I think I'll make some tonight for myself actually. ;)

I'll have to cook everything on Wednesday night -- I feel like the main dish will last till Saturday and desert too, but I wonder if the salad will get wilty... maybe if I just have them add the dressing it will be ok.

Mexican coke taste more delicious I don't care what anyone says. There's a shop around the corner from my apartment and they have it and it tastes different and better. Different ingredients, different taste -- even if chemically the compounds are similar.

"as for the show, from the commercials everyone on Bravo seems to be a smug, loudmouthed, overly-made-up phony, so no i won't be watching. posted by carolynapplebee"

This. These people just seem really obnoxious to me, with or without the kids.

On the kid thing, I'm not totally sure where I stand, but I tend to think the problem is less about over-population and more about the unsustainable lifestyles that we live here in the US and in other rich countries. I actually think if we really tried, we could sustain the world with the resources we have -- distribution is just so out of whack right now. I don't have stats to back that up, but I'm sure they're out there. :)

Beautiful house! I really love it. My only thing is, and I hope this doesn't come of as rude, but am I understanding correctly that you have or plan on having two washer/dryer sets for one house? Can't you still have the kids do their own laundry by using the main one in the laundry/mud room? It seems a little wasteful.

The most amazing trick I have ever come across: To get rust and other stains off of stainless steel, mix some baking soda and water to make a paste, crumple up a bit of aluminum foil, and use it to scrub away. I'm telling you it works wonders. I had a stainless steel pot covered in rust and now it's sparkling. Amazing really. I can't guarantee no scratches-- it might have resulted in a few, but for a pot that was so gross I was going to throw it away anyway, I can live with a few scratches. Honestly, the scratches may have been there before, but I'm just not sure.

I never understood filling up the sink with water. Doesn’t that just make the water dirty when you put all the dirty dishes in it? Where does all the dirty water go? Don't you still have to rinse the dishes? I definitely prefer to wet the dishes by running a little bit of water, tehn wet/soap a sponge and then scrub each dish. If I’m being green, I’ll stack up the soapy dishes on the counter and rinse them all at the end or I rinse each dish as I go.
