Love it. Gorgeous and actually attainable. I'm not a huge fan of the wallpaper, but they love it and that's all that matters.

I love SouthLoopFoodie's suggestions! I usually ask "how do you know the host" or if I'm talking to someone I know I'll bring up a current event that I think we both share interest in.

I personally hate the "what do you do" question. Perhaps it's my own hangup since I'm a SAHM and my answer always leads to a slew of questions like "what do you do all day" which I don't particularly like to answer.

I just tempered chocolate for the first time a couple days ago and didn't find it that difficult. I didn't even have a thermometer. Just used a double boiler, stirred until the chocolate was just barely melted, then started adding in the reserve pieces a couple at a time until they wouldn't melt anymore (took the non-melted pieces out). Worked beautifully and wasn't really messy at all. I did have to work quick and the last batch of candy I dipped didn't turn out well because I think the chocolate had cooled too much by then or something -- or maybe seized up. Not sure. But the first couple batches were beautiful.

I totally agree with Step 5!!! I hate dressing at the table so much. Those salads never taste right because you don't have enough room on your own plate or bowl to properly coat your greens.

We did cloth diapers for about 8 months and then had to switch to disposables because of a rash situation. We're just now starting to get back into cloth. I have to say, the thing I hate about cloth is the feeling of wetness. Even with the PUL technology, I found three hours was much to long to go between changes for us. And we always had to do disposables overnight. We tried the wool covers, but my little girl always woke up with a super wet diaper and a wet bum.

The best thing we ever did? Introducing the potty at 5 months. Our now 15 month old daughter almost exclusively poops in the potty and has been for a long time. She also pees there more than half the time. I wouldn't say she's potty trained, but she shows me signs that she has to go and I take her. In terms of environmental impact, I think this is really great and made me feel more okay about using disposables for the past few months. And our lives are much less messy when she does her business in the potty.

[And before people get all up in arms about introducing the potty so early, it was really a no stress situation. We put her on it and she got it almost right away. We never force her to go or make a big deal about it if she doesn't.]

The bread should be warm. The jam should be cherry and spread generously. Strawberry jam will do in a pinch. Definitely not grape. The peanut butter is better creamy.

Butter just sounds gross. But I'm willing to try some salt. I do like to eat my PB&J with a bag of potato chips.

We have the bjorn bouncer and used the hell out of it until she started sitting up on her own. I still us it occasionally. As for the other stuff (jumpers, swings, etc.) we went without. I never really felt we needed them. They are really just a place to plop down the kid when you need to get something done. Since we don't have much room, we just used the bjorn for that (it has a toy attachment and I tried to entertain her with whatever I was doing if it was for more than a couple minutes).

Otherwise, I was on the floor playing with her or else carrying/wearing her.

Wow -- looks like a bunch of comments got deleted from this post. That's pretty messed up. People can't express a political opinion? I don't think the missing posts broke any of the community rules (at least not the posts I saw). Make me respect AT a lot less all of a sudden.

These tips kind of suck. Here are my (I think) unrelated gripes: A) Allowance shouldn't be tied to chores. Kids do chores as members of the household. B) Nothing wrong with welfare. Those of us that have and are able should provide for those of us that don't have and are not able. Seems like parents (who have money and are able to work for money) should provide for their kids (who don't have money and aren't able to work for money). That doesn't mean just giving them money and not teaching them how to manage it properly.

I honestly can't remember if I received an allowance or not. I must have though. I do remember that I was expected to help around the house as a member of our family. And I expected to get my first job as soon as I was mature enough and legally allowed to. I started working at 15.

slightly off topic, but question for baumgak - did you find a daycare in your city that will do cloth diapers? this is my only concern about the whole cloth diapering thing. becaise if they won't do it at daycare, is it worth doing it at home?

and as for the questioner, while i share your concern for the enviornment, get over yourself. if it's such a moral dilemma, don't go.

Just made this and it was delicious!! But I had the same problem as jamimess and Laurie2125... no egg ribbons, just tiny little bits. I was also thinking that maybe I poured the mixture in to quickly, but not sure. Any thoughts?

if you're the owner of either of those first two rugs, please share where you got them from!! i'm desperately looking for a rug similar to either of those for our new place.

i totally agree, by the way, that rugs are super important. they can totally make a room. right now we have a limited budget and need a few things, but i'm planning to spend money on the rug and hold off on the others.

Thank you for the suggestions! Braised meat sounds like a good strategy. And that kale salad looks delicious -- I think I'll make some tonight for myself actually. ;)

I'll have to cook everything on Wednesday night -- I feel like the main dish will last till Saturday and desert too, but I wonder if the salad will get wilty... maybe if I just have them add the dressing it will be ok.

Mexican coke taste more delicious I don't care what anyone says. There's a shop around the corner from my apartment and they have it and it tastes different and better. Different ingredients, different taste -- even if chemically the compounds are similar.
