The water bugs here in SC (We call them Palmetto Bugs but are the same thing) are huge and prolific and they fly! Ugh. The best way to keep them down is to be really really clean. No dirty dishes left out, ever...a tight-fitting trash can lid, even dirty laundry can lure them in. They live outside so also making sure any cracks and crevices are caulked helps too. I'm not entirely sure about the pipes, but I do know the sink should be kept nice and clean. And, Unlike the other roaches, if your house is cleaner than your neighbor's, they will go there instead.

My dog would have such a good time disassembling that.

maybe use it in a container instead? Then people wouldn't be stepping in it.

I used to live in High Point. Market is a HUGE boost for the economy there, and it is so nice in the otherwise traditional, old-school southeast to see modern, fresh design ideas during market. I hope it continues to be held there.

I have this great red upholstered MCM chair that my white dog insists upon sleeping on. So it's a great old red chair with white hairs all over it. I have tried getting them off but haven't figured out a way yet. I choose my dog's happiness over my pristine red chair.

I don't normally like so much wood in a space, but your home looks very cozy and warm.

I agree, it looks like a storefront that was turned into a home later with the porch addition. very interesting. If it were me, I would go with Victorian fixtures (such as lighting and other semi-permanent things) but totally eclectic and funky otherwise, you are not constrained as much because it is a funky mix of styles already. Of course, there are no rules anyway with regard to decor, as far as I am concerned.

I have one as well - with four overlapping shower liners that go all the way around, and I spray bleach solution on after my shower to try to keep the mold down. I am definitely going to rig up something similar to this though, for holding all our stuff! Excellent idea.

I think I would paint the trim bright orange and leave the rest white. And I would do something about the bush in front, it's a little clunky and centered to block the view of the house.

I agree with those who said they would question building or buying in a floodplain in the first place. Not meaning to sound unkind, and my heart does go out to those who are suffering right now, but these areas should be left natural. Historic architecture should be protected, or moved. They have moved a whole town in Iowa for this reason.

I think it's a fine look for a mudroom or back porch but maybe not for a formal front entry. Nice idea though, good job! Maybe other types of containers would look better but serve the same function...vintage tins, for example.

The turquoise berries look like porcelainberry, Ampelopsis brevipedunculata. They are gorgeous, but unfortunately this plant is also quite invasive, at least here in the southeast. Plant cautiously, where it can be monitored.

I had a skylight in the bedroom in my old house. I loved seeing the stars at night, but sleeping in on Saturday is hard to do!

Now I have a craving for circus peanuts. I know that colors come and go in fashion circles, but that periwinkly-lavender color is just icky.

No food. We live in the deep south, and food brings bugs. Big, bad bugs. Doggie can sleep on the bed but not in it.

I have a 13 pound Jack chih-whippet and he sleeps curled up in a ball on the bed, but I don't let him sleep under the covers. That would be kind of gross. He was a stray and had a very hard life before he came to live with me, so I love spoiling him a bit.
