@acfnyc8 - in this case, asking how much it costs is hardly rude, but logical since most people probably assume it cost a lot. the reality is that such a trip is quite approachable for many people.

this is a site for sharing information and inspiring and empowering others, not judging or withholding valuable information. since cost is likely the top or second factor for most people to consider when researching a trip, it only makes sense to ask someone who has done it themselves so you know whether to even think of going or so you don't get ripped off. knowledge is power.

@Jason Yang - there may not be diesel at every station but youd be surprised how many nearby stations do have it. plus youre filling up half as often. you can buy my wagon and ill get the tdi to replace it. i can assure you that my wagon garners more attention and oohs and ahs (its nicely tuned) than comments about being for families. keep in mind that in other parts of the world wagons are the vehicle of choice for most men because theyre practical and economical. some wagons actually have more cargo space than an SUV. http://www.elementwheels.com/proddetail.asp?prod=a4f14wagon

i am contemplating cutting my cable because lets face it comcast is criminal. but, i am not sure whether or how to determine if the shows i like to watch are available for free on line. is there a good resource to determine if your desired programming is in fact available without cable tv? i watch stuff like discovery and tlc programming as well as things like top gear on bbc or current tv and G4.

make sure you use the correct type of extension cord especially if its going to be stapled or beneath a couch. extension cords can be a serious fire hazard if used improperly or damaged.

the third bullet really only applies to renters or commercial spaces where extinguishers are actually inspected. extinguishers in your home dont get inspected unless you pay someone to do so or have some sort of service plan that includes such an inspection.

also, make sure you have the correct type of extinguisher for your property since there are various types depending on the nature of the expected hazards such as cooking fires verses hazmat or wood fires.

and remember, if you have a sprinkler system, sprinklers do not all come on at once like in the movies. they come on when the temperature at a particular sprinkler head gets high enough to actuate the sprinkler. and the water that comes out initially is not pretty.

We hear a lot about using reclaimed materials but i've found that its a bit hard to find sources, or affordable sources, for reclaimed materials. aside from the usual suspects of craigslist, restore, etc., where does someone source this stuff from at an affordable cost? personally, i would think that reclaimed material is cheaper but i have actually found this to not be true, sadly.

Being this kind of "radical" is a diservice to our species and progress. It is entirely the wrong approach to take steps back and the world really ought to learn more how to embrace technology and progress to improve the way we live. Sure, smart decisions will always be appropriate but line drying your clothes, not showering on a regular basis, growing all your own food, etc are steps back, not forward. the fact is that there are better decisions to be made. Make smart decisions and things will be just fine. Devolving to prehistoric times is backwards no matter how you spin it. It is possible to have the best of both worlds if you just use your head and that should not be considered "radical".
