Not to quibble, BUT... the population of Seattle is nowhere NEAR 3.3 million. It's about 600,000. The population of ALL of Puget Sound, including from Olympia up to the San Juan Islands, is around 3.5 million.

Great work I love how you extended the kitchen into the dining room and wrapped the counter - so clever! I've had a difficult time finding a beautiful orange for my house, and I love this orange. What is it?

Yeah, but is it going to survive our forthcoming 9.0?

Other than that, I loves.

GREAT THREAD. They're so cheap at Trader Joe's.
I fry them (in cast iron, which means I need to wash the cast iron a bit afterwards) in a little oil and then near the end toss in a bunch of breadcrumbs or panko. I put this atop a bed of pasta tossed with olive oil, italian parsley, greek olives, red bell peppers, and whatever else seems appealing that's around the pantry. Finish with Parmesan, black pepper and a squeeze of lemon!

LOVE to see Northwest / Seattle house tours on AT! Nice work, Suki! I swear, I've been in your apartment before, long ago. Love the bathroom most of all - the gold touches with the blue tile is gorgeous.

AT! Please, please, please get a blogger here. The reader-submitted tours are better than nothing, but ones done by local bloggers are so much more useful, inspiring and inviting. Seattle deserves it!

You ripped out dark granite and replaced it with a light-hued granite. It's still granite, though, as far as I can tell. I'm wondering what you did with the old granite. Did it go to a re-use purpose or salvage yard? That stuff is quarry-mined, not light on the earth.

Now the apartment is down to 96 sq feet, though.
Personally, I like it, but it needs more information, and would have been better if the profile were photographed and written by someone else. Are there no AT bloggers here in Seattle to do house tours? Because I'm always available for freelance work :)

I second Indy. AT should post the cost of products, especially when a single product warrants its own post. The website does not name a price. As the blogger, its your job to pick up the phone and find out the price for AT readers. Looks like all the info you provide here is available directly from their website; no additional research was done at all. It's like an ad.

We just painted our brick fireplace a gorgeous white after many years of hating the ugly, uneven red brick that was the focal point of our living room. I wish we'd have done this sooner! The room is so much brighter. Unlike the blogger's suggestion, we went high gloss. I was inspired by the outside of one wall of MoMa on a recent trip to NYC. Our brick is corner to corner, which I think looks even prettier when painted..

Ditto the kudos for Floradix, a veg-based liquid supplement. When I was anemic, this brought my levels up in no time.

For ongoing dietary support, I eat tons of mussels and clams (helps to live on Puget Sound), leafy greens, cook in cast iron, and have roasted beets on my spinach salad 2-3 times a week.

I'd like this better with a plain rug and without the fabric wall hangings. As it is, it is overload. As someone who gets migraines, well, I wouldn't want to hang out here!

I've become quite a fan of butcher block countertop flush with clean white cabinets. Looks great here.

Anyway, my 1960s house has very similar kitchen cabinetry to the original cabinets here. Like the owner says in the comment above, these weren't original cabinets to their 1930s kitchen. I refinished mine and painted them "stem green" (benjamin moore) which makes them tolerable, but they are by no means great cabinets. If I could afford it, I would replace them.

I am one of those people who fantasize about someday running my own B&B -- nothing fancy or anything, just an adorable, rustic cottage in Oregon's Willamette Valley with an overflowing organic vegetable garden out back and perma-cat in the front window, sunning himself. My guests will come from Seattle, England, Brazil and Japan and we'll share travel stories over a pot of coffee and huckleberry pancakes out on the porch that overlooks the rolling hills of the vineyard next door...

Yes, I have given this whole B&B thing some serious thought.

Whenever I travel, homestays and B&Bs are my lodging of choice. I really like the concept of AirBnB, and am set to use it for the first time for an upcoming trip to NYC. But I think outside of expensive cities like NYC or London the prices are kinda steep. (For example you can get a 4-star hotel via Priceline for $69 downtown Seattle right now. Compare that to what's offered in Seattle on AirBnB, and it's the W Hotel that starts to look like the bargain.)

Another great way to cut costs when traveling is to arrange bed and breakfast homestays. In an effort to fulfill my own B&B fantasies, I created a network called Casa Casa, where travelers stay in each other's homes, eat a home-cooked breakfast, and pay a small gratuity of $15 a night to their hosts--a fraction of the cost of a real bed and breakfast. Check it out at http://www.casacasa.org.

nice to see this - i recently did this myself! By the way, it was challenging to find nice, inexpensive square frames, but wood ones are available through Dennis Daniels Inc. (sold at many frame shops and art supply stores) in several colors and sizes - 10x10, 12x12 and 14x14.

I wonder if the handle is height-adjustable? That is one mark against the Micralite Toro we are considering. I am also in Seattle and need a recommendation on where to test drive some of these strollers - suggestions?
