You might try living with them for a bit as some of the previous posters mentioned, but if you decide you like them, they could be made fantastic with some new fabric.

I think a print of this or of pancakes in each shape would be terrific.

This seems like a very good candidate for a DIY.

I had a coworker who hosted a tamale making party at Christmas each year. It was terrific fun.

What a terrific cheerful room, filled with real playthings. The collection of things that children really like and play with is often difficult to corral. This arrangement does a good job while leaving room to play and making toys accessible to a little person. I also notice that things should be easy to clean up and put away. A big deal.

Who made the rug?

This makes the chair a swivel rocker. A glider has a different and more lateral motion. Both are nice, but they aren't the same.

I don't understand how anything can be "design blasphemy". Design is not a belief system. It's a form of expression. To reinvent is to grow.

Laurie Colwin's essays helped form my food beliefs. In one she states that she is never very interested in hearing about restaurant meals; she wanted to know what people ate at home. I'm that way, too.

I think her essay on bad dinner parties is a classic.

Don't forget cafe Cubano. It's the taste and smell of South Florida to me!

What about "squidgy"? It means a little soft in the center. I love that one.

I just use 6 quarry tiles from the hardware store. I place them directly on the grate. I've used the same set for years, and they cost less than a dollar each.

I think one of the things that struck me was how quickly she caught on to the French respect for food. The joy in serving, the knowledge of its origins, the care and time spent in preparing, serving and enjoying. Even the anticipation. The section about the Couronne restaurant was so vivid. It must have truly changed her thinking.

I love this coffee maker. It was my first coffee maker in college, purchased at a thrift store for $5. I never knew coffee could be so strong and delicious before that Chemex. I didn't use a thermal carafe to keep my coffee warm, I kept it on low on the back eye of my stove, sitting on an asbestos pad from the chemistry lab. It had a very scientific look. I don't use it any more, because my husband finds it difficult to pour without burning his hand. Does anyone else have this problem?
