Re-read the article, it says they plan to build a 400 sq ft home in the future on this land that will be their primary residence. I believe that is what ec05 is referring to.

Love the Kitchen Dan! Also one of my favorite kitchen renovations.
And Gregg, if you're ever in Oakland, CA, I could use an innovative contractor like you!

I'm more inclined to think all these infestations people have are really rat mite bites. Much more common than "bedbugs", but people can't get used to the fact that there are way more rats than people and they are EVERYWHERE! Yes, even at your house, fastidious housekeeper! They can get through spaces in the crawlspace and attic that you wouldn't believe.
But, as Maggie G64 said, the obsession is way out of proportion to the actual threat. Much the same with head lice outbreaks at school.

@KIWIKIMMY- Agreed. I, for one, wish Ikea made more mid or even higher priced items that were well made/ and or solid wood. It's far better for the world to have NON throw away furniture!

Hmmm...
I have said office credenza, but it has a laminate top :( My husband hates it. But it was free on Craigslist.
Now inspired to find an old wood door or old wood counter or even clamp together some old salvaged boards and make a new top and paint it, of course!

I think the kitchen turned out beautifully. I do wish there was more info on sources of things, such as the kind of windows you ordered. Are they commercial??

Hi Jeanine-
I know this is an old post, but I just stumbled upon your kitchen and something about it really speaks to me. I've been looking at it off and on all day, trying to put my finger on it.
I'm not sure from the pics. but it looks like the "aisles" are about 36" wide and the island is about 6 feet long. It seems like this goes against everything I have read about "keeping" the kitchen open and rules. Yet, I'm thinking the spacing seems cozy and just right to me. Could you comment on your spacing and if you regret it, ie. makes it hard to move about with someone else in the kitchen? I may just buck the trends too!
