I really love the vibe and the airiness of this place. I bet it would feel like cooking outside with all of that lovely wood and light in the kitchen. The kitchen and bathroom are my favorite. I especially love the wrap around counter top and the extra cabinet in the bathroom. This place just makes me happy, thanks for sharing!

Oh this so gets my vote. Who the hell needs a whole house when you can have this. And a fireplace to boot?! Lovely.

It was fun living in the Tampa suburbs as a child (especially since many of my friends who grew up in the inner city of Tampa lived in impoverished/ not so hot neighborhoods). However, at the age of 29 living in the city limits, I can't imagine going back to the suburbs.

In fact I'm only in Tampa because my family still lives in Florida, otherwise I would probably be out of here. I love living in the city. I'm walking distance from food, coffee, free concerts, grocery stores, boat ramp and river, parks, the zoo. It's lovely. I'd be bored dumb in the suburbs.

I don't plan on having kids, but if I did I would want to raise them in the city, but in a nicer neighborhood.

I was looking around for these for a while because I have birds who fly, and fans. Could you get just the cage? I was thinking about just making something out of chicken wire. Like start with a circle "bottom", then attach a strip, just wider than the heigh of the fan, around the edge of the circle, and attach it to the ceiling.

Ah, stagers. I feel like I can do world's better. The stagers in my area (from what I've seen on their websites when I went through my staging stage..ha!) used fake plants (no no no), Kirkland's homes accessories that looked like they came from Kirkland's, big fluffy furniture.

I heard the saying, when in doubt of how to decorate/ stage your home, look to the age of the home, or the period after which it was designed. Most likely people looking for a "vintage" home like a certain aesthetic. You want to tailor it to the expected customer, not always what the generic idea of "nice" is.

I second the comment about the Home Depot fixtures. I mean, I love HD and have HD kitchen cabinets and other things, BUT my house has different qualities of finishes, including higher-end.

GOD I could not tell you how desperate and shady it is when investors/ homeowners latch on like a pitbull to the idea that kitchens and bathrooms raise the value of a home. It causes them to put all of their money into craptastic builder-grade items and ignore the rest of the house. During my house hunt I had to surpress epic eyerolls when I saw new kitchens with builder grade cabinets and built in wooden country "chic" wine racks and clearance granite smack in the middle of a dingy, falling apart house...and I just about bit my tongue clear off each time I was told THIS shining golden turd in the toilet is the reason why the price of the house is so much more than it's comps.

I ended up buying a house built in 1964, untouched since the 70's. I got to keep what I wanted (like the cast iron tub and HUGE stunning cast-iron avocado colored double sink with the lucite spaghetti pendant tulip lamp hanging above it.The cabinets while beautiful, had to go because they were molded caused by a leak. But I can tell you though that those old moldy cabinets and peeling faux bois laminate counter-tops were infinitely more appealing to me (and probably anyone who would be looking at a house built in 1964) than those sad, misplaced displays mentioned above.

I haven't had cable for years, but would like to have the capability to view the free basic channels. Thanks for the recommendations! My dad gets the free channels clearly, but his antennae is a ginormous eyesore...which has been scaring me off.

Honestly, I can't imagine ever having cable, let alone paying for it. The few times I've watched it at other people's houses, I wanted to tear my eyeballs out. There are a few series and docu-shows I follow online.

It looked like a tv to me the second I looked at the picture. I have to agree with others that it's funny-lookin'. What fireplace has a black hole jutting OUT of the center of it? Honestly, it would be much more beautiful and less obvious to have a screen built out a bit if the tv doesn't set back all the way. Like literally built a little cabinet for it.

Otherwise, I think it's a good idea to put the tv in there. I don't watch tv that much, and not too many peopel come to my house just to watch tv particularly since I don't have any channels...though I'm hoping to get an antennae and "upgrade" to free basic channels!

If it's on with people there, it's moreso for background noise.

I love it! This is absolutely my style. I just love much of the Australian aesthetics which I've notice seem to be inspired by indiginous and pacific island culture.

Wasn't she one of the stars on Modern Family who threatened to walk because she wasn't getting paid enough? She's also a Pepsi spokesperson and now "designing" furniture with....ewg...R2G? Money-hungry much? I can't help but feel like when some of these celebrities try to grow their brand, all they do is end up cheapening it.

Who knows, maybe she's giving it all to charity.

That painting is so beautiful, I couldn't stop staring at it. It's eery in a good way, all foggy and dark, and the light makes it look incredibly realistic. I love that you made much of the art in your room versus just buying the latest "in" ironic poster. No one else really could have this space for themselves.

I agree....DON'T BUY UNLESS OWNING A HOME IS IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO YOU TO DEAL WITH TYPICAL HOMEOWNER STUFF.

Owning a house, or a kid, is not for everyone. Some of the stuff people hate about owning, and that others list as a negative for owning, are my favorite things about owning. I've been a homeowner to 4 years (bought my house at 25 because it fit my financial plan) and stll, one new roof, new kitchen, new bathroom, renovated in-law suite, and on-going backyard overhaul later, I still love it.

I have put a lot of money into my house, but it's my hobby so as long as I understand that much of the things were elective and I do them as I can afford them, it's ok. For me, buying was a no-brainer because I pay 1/2 what my peers pay renting in the same area.
I think there are plenty of misconceptions on both sides. For instance I don't get where this idea that owning a home hinders traveling. Since owning my home I've gone to Jamaica for 3 wks and will be going to Africa for 6 weeks in a few months. Perhaps if you maybe wanted to MOVE to a different country (but I don't really consider that traveling).

In my aunt's case, being a homeowner actually helped her move to a different area for a year (for free!), through house-swapping. Even if I decided I want to live in a different country (and I do plan on it), I can easily rent my house out to family, friends, or through a leasing agency.....not much different from sub-letting an apartment. I understand this may be more difficult if your home is out in east bumble-bee. Luckily I bought in a renter-friendly area and my mortgage is so redunculously low ($270/ month...and in about 5 yrs $0) that if I were going to live temporarily in a different place I'd eat the cost, or find a trustworthy person to stay there in exchange for paying for the redunculously low mortgage. Trust me, I have a line of takers. Today there are so many services and angencies available, even the local university would use it for extra/ international student housing.

So please stop saying homeownership hinders traveling. I'm ok with living in other areas, while keeping a house because I love the idea of having a homebase. No matter where I am in the world, I have my spot to go back to. I LOVE that feeling. It may not matter so much to other people, I get that, but it is not impossible or even hard to be a wunderlust homeowner. I travel more than many renters I know and for longer periods.

I voted for this just because it's weirdly beautiful. Yay for no graphic wallpaper/ pillows/ rugs/ duvets, with sterile accessories from old time pottery. I'm an atheist and this almost makes me believe in god.

It's pretty, in theory. But it doesn't look like much of a rereat because it seems like design over life. I mean, what if you see a piece of art or clothing or anything that like, but it's not black and white. Do you walk away from it because it doesn't match the room?

Like I said, it looks good, but it has too many rules to be a retreat to me.

Should the house be demolished then? It's a beautiful house. I love that history, no matter the history is preserved. We should be appreciative of that.
