I got married earlier this year, and Heath dishes are pretty much the only thing I really cared about registering for. I know this may sound silly, but I actually enjoy doing the dishes more since we got Heath. We are also using paper plates less.

They are so classic, beautiful, and surprisingly sturdy. They are dishes that I am confident will last decades. Also, the simplicity of the style gives the dishes flexibility. They mix and match with the four settings of Fiesta dishes we already had. Because I think the style is easy to dress up, I didn't feel the need to register for good china

I love the philosophy of Heath. Even though registering for Heath felt like an indulgence (especially since I live in Chicago), it was nice knowing that I was supporting artisans and an independent socially responsible business.

If you live in California, they have often have great deals in their physicals stores on seconds and experimental batches. That may help make Heath a little more affordable.

art,

actually, a lot of people criticized Obama on the campaign trail because he was such a healthy eater and wouldn't finish his pancakes or whatever high fat/high calorie meal handed to him at the local diner. While he seems to eat pizza and the like, my impression is that he does not have a so-called "Chicago" appetite.

And for the record, Chicago has amazing food beyond pizza and beef sandwiches. We have everything from great mom amd pop ethnic restaurants to fine dining like Charlie Trotters and moto.

Depending on how far away from the center of the city you are willing to go, there are some great neighborhoods on the southside in addition to Hyde Park. Beverly and Morgan Park have great old houses with yards. It's a great place for dogs, families, and people who want a little more space and a little less congestion. They cost as much and often less than many condos. Public transporation in these areas is not super great. You have access to the red line and the metra. I grew up in Morgan Park, but I live in the Ukrainian Village now.

Really, when picking a neighborhood, you should spend sometime throughout the city and see what feels the most comfortable to you and decide what your priorities are and go from there.

I don't think this is a subprime scheme. It's a fixed rate 15-30 year mortgage. Also, it was developed from a three-year long research program led by three non-profit organizations: the Center for Neighborhood Technology, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and the Surface Transportation Policy Project. Other reputable non-profits who are involved include: the Nathan Cummings Foundation, the Joyce Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Surdna Foundation.

Also, in a city like Chicago (where I live), it is more expensive to live in neighborhoods that have a lot of local businesses, are close to public transportation, and are close to downtown, where a ton of people work. It is good for the city and for the environment to make living in the city affordable for lower income middle class people. (People who,one might argue, may have a greater need to be closer to public transportation.) Otherwise you end up with destitute or super rich neighborhoods with not much in between. A mortgage like this means that someone like me may be able to buy a modest home or condo close to work and won't have to move to the suburbs.

I also just got the W bed.

I love the bamboo sheets at target - $50 for a queen set, not on sale. They are super soft. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_3/602-7128624-3933423?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B000KUES2Q

I also recently bought a set of martex sheets from kohl's. they feel like a broken in oxford shirt. The queen set was just $40 on sale.
