I'm normally in the restore-the-wood camp, but this time, I think the paint job looks fantastic. Nice work.

It's pretty easy to have a nice home when you have MILLIONS of dollars to spend. A Tribeca loft of this quality is not something most people will ever be able to consider. More relatable tours please.

Really great article. I love the idea of saving the money towards a big purchase every time I want to make an impulse small purchase.

I once spent a summer in Houston without AC and this trick won't work unless you use it strategically: During the heat of the day, while you are away at work, close all the windows and curtains to keep the hot air out. Then, when you return in the evening, blow all the stale air out. When you go to bed, turn the fan around and let it blow cooler night air on you. Also: put refreezable ice packs under the covers at the foot of your bed.

I have a sort of OK deal in Queens and I don't mind when people ask what I pay. I would not ask in a clearly expensive fancy-pants Manhattan apartment.

All of these solutions are great except the last. That frosted mirror is so seventies horrific. Not sure what to do about mirrored doors - but don't do that.

Oh wow. I was already loving this tour and then I saw the dog. What a great photo and what an adorable dog. This home is so comfy and genuinely expressive/fun.

I looked at this slide show over and over again. This is gorgeous - each room relates to the others, the materials are the perfect mix of warm and smooth. I love it. Especially love the window seat in the kitchen with the amazing curved window. It must be hard to get out of that spot!

I live in NYC and can only dream about this, but I think a huge factor was left off the list: Does the pool have a swim-up bar?

Where can I buy them? If they eat roaches, I will happily keep two or three as pets.

Well done. Most projects in NYC go even farther over budget. You could definitely recoup this cost if you sold the apartment, and it's lovely.

The look is gorgeous, but I hate leaning over to look into dark lower cabinets. I'm much more likely to use the contents of an upper cabinet.

As a frequent houseguest, I always feel uncomfortable sleeping in my host's child's bed. It's weird, and I'd honestly prefer to sleep on the couch in the living room than displace the kid - especially since he or she invariably wakes me up to retrieve a toy or use the bathroom. However, visiting grandparents probably need the big bed? I slept in a twin bed until high school, and was perfectly happy in it (it was a Jenny Lind style spool bed and I loved it). I didn't agree to a big bed until my mom found an awesome sleigh bed at a resale shop that we couldn't resist.

I would keep the wood (it's lovely), but choose a fun colorful fabric to make the chair younger. Don't listen to all those painters! The chair will be worth more in the long run if you leave the finish as is.

This works if your wardrobe goes together. My clothes are all over the place in terms of length, color, newness and texture. Putting them out in the open would not look tidy. However, if I was a guy with 20 blue shirts and 4 pairs of brown shoes, I would be open to this concept.

I really admire how consistent and unified this apartment is.

I have a north facing apartment which feels very sunny and pleasant. I painted most of it an icy blue (almost white), which looks terrific. I also have a lot of plants and warm colored wood furniture. My dining room only has one window, so I placed a huge mirror on the perpendicular wall to the window, which really maximizes the light. Good luck!

I'm a New Yorker - the value of the location more than justifies the cost of this renovation. Small studios in Manhattan start at $300,000.00. A renovated studio might be worth $500,000.00 depending on it's proximity to train, maintenance, etc. Although this is a spectacularly expensive endeavor, it is not unwise by any stretch. The homeowner lived in the place (and probably saved $) for several years before she made the decision to renovate. Further - Old buildings with structural issues are so common in NYC that this building's manageable problems would not be a resale deterrent. To the person who thought the building looked like a dump: I know doctors and bankers that live in tiny narrow walk-up studios in the East Village. People pee in their lobbies. Feel free to smirk. I guess we just like it here?
