Ok - if you people have lingering coffee residue in your french press (or mugs or whatever) you're not cleaning it well enough. I am a coffee geek, but I'm practical and have used my french press for tea. BUT I clean it well so there's no worry about lingering coffee. You should be cleaning out your coffee press as soon as you are done with it, don't let the grounds sit in there. I also purchased this at Costco, except my bundle included the battery pack. If you read the instructions, and use the battery pack as an intermediary (solar panel to battery pack to iphone) to provide a consistant and regulated flow of power, this item can charge the iphone with no problems. Many smartphones require a consistant flow and the battery pack can provide that even if the batteries themselves are depleted. i've had a similar problem - there were holes in the deck and the landlord didn't think it was a problem (his grandmother, who owned the property did and she fixed it when she heard) We basically built a floating wood frame and deck over the entire patio.
