A lot of people have mentioned either DIY framing or going pro. I just want to point out that there is a middle path: taking a finished frame into your local frame shop and having them mount your art, add glass, etc.

I have done this several times with vintage frame finds. Just be on the lookout for frames that are close to the dimensions you need. I also pick up large frames that are a good price whenever I see them and keep them for future projects. Typically, the larger the frame the more money you will save. Plus, sometimes you can find frames with elements the frame store won't do (I have one with carved feathers at the top, for instance). I like the reassurance that a framer I trust has dealt with the mounting of a piece, plus I like to use UV-resistant plexiglass which is not something that comes with any store-bought frames I have seen. So saving money on the frame lets me splurge on archival materials and labor.

If anyone is interested I can post a picture of a completed piece when I get home from work.

I agree with the previous comments -- I would love to visit the hotel during the day, go to its restaurant, etc, but I could never sleep there. Not all sea creatures are cute!

These posts are inspiring!

I bought a billboard size "Gone With the Wind" movie poster circa 1950's that is so rare I can't even give it a value because there is nothing to compare it to. The art is completely different from any of the poster variants you usually see -- it has classic scenes from the movie with little captions and is all in warm sepia tones. Anyone know? I love it no matter the value, I'm just curious.

Good custom framing. If you really want to protect a piece of art you can't cut corners on this.

Ahhh, memories. The first Small Cool contest happened to be going on the first time I ever visited Apartment Therapy. I'm glad to see Patrick's slide show back up (the link was broken for a while). His apartment still looks fabulous, though I would love to find out if it has changed since then. I remember the other finalists being really good too -- particularly the "Golden Handcuffs" apartment.

I recently moved into a house where you walk through a short hallway (closets on either side) to get to the master bathroom. When we moved in there was NO DOOR either to the start of the hallway or the start of the bathroom. Since doors are always left open during house showings I didn't even notice the absence of a door until we were in contract. Luckily adding one was easy (there was already a door jamb). Anyway, it has led to a lot of speculation about the couple who lived there previously, and a lot of jokes between my husband and I! The hallway provides a bit of separation, but it is not one of those palatial bathrooms where everything is spread out. I mean, you could literally see the toilet from the bed -- EWW.

I read this organizing tip in a magazine and it has been a godsend: clear hanging shoe organizers for items other than shoes.

I've used them for scarves and sunglasses in a coat closet, for chargers and cords, for small pantry items...you name it. They are cheap, easy to find and hang, and endlessly useful. I'm sorry I can't credit where I read this -- I would like to thank the author! Here's one for sale on amazon if you are interested:

I love the way the room as a whole (with all the furnishings and colors) reads "peacock" rather than it just being painted peacock blue or something. A very pretty and inviting space.

I'd like to see a Princess Bride wallpaper -- Buttercup, Wesley (with and without mask), Inigo, Fezzik, Vizzini, Prince Humperdink, Count Rugen....perhaps a few ROUSes hidden daintily in the border!
