Oh come on, the after picture has obviously been edited to increase the brightness of the photo and exaggerate the difference. You can tell by how blown out the lighter sections are, you can barely see out the windows and the cabinets look like they're glowing!

This is news to me, maybe it's an Australian thing, but when I think of sherbert I think of the sweet powdery stuff that fizzes when you put it in your mouth.

However way you cut it, using a public washing machine is pretty gross. Especially when you find short curly hairs in your clothes that aren't your own. *Barf*.

Disclaimer: I'm a guy who didn't think either of these post titles was sexist in the slightest. But just to make sure I wasn't missing something, I showed the article to my mother, two sisters, and a bunch of female coworkers. Not one of them found anything remotely sexist or offensive about the way the title was worded.

You say "AT does have a responsibility to use nondiscriminatory language and phrases and sentences and titles". Well, they have! The titles are worded as neutrally as can be. It is a simple statement of fact - the article is about the homes of women (or men) who live on their own. Getting offended by "women living on their own" is like getting offended by the phrases "women baking bread", or "women wearing raincoats".

And no, I didn't think the title "men living on their own" sounded funny either. Like the women's version, it simply and neutrally describes what the article is about. Some other commentators took issue with the fact that women were being "singled out" from the men. I thought the reason was obvious - women who lived on their own would quite likely style their homes very differently to men who lived on their own. That is justification enough to split the article into two separate streams.

AT hasn't (and shouldn't) apologise because they have done absolutely nothing wrong. The author of the article (who is also a woman herself) is not responsible for other people projecting their own overwrought interpretations and insecurities onto what is a completely innocuous phrase. Not to mention that the title starts off with "Inspirational house tours", thereby making it obvious that the women are being shown in a positive light. Hardly the "archaic and oppressive" language that you seem to think it is.

I'm also not sure what your point in showing the variations of wording in the address bars was. One says "who live alone", the other says "living on their own". They mean exactly the same thing!

Do you have the right to be offended? Of course you do. But we also have the right to call you out on it if to any reasonable person there is genuinely no cause for offence in the first place. It's drawing an extremely long bow to find the phrase "women living on their own" sexist, and the only conclusion to be made is that those who find it offensive are actively looking to be offended.

You're absolutely right that the articles are "inspirational, empowering, lively, dynamic". It's just a shame they had to be hijacked by those searching for an axe to grind.

Also for God's sake don't try Victoria Bitter if you're here, the only people who drink that rubbish are bogans (or what Americans might call rednecks or white trash). Try James Squire or Cooper's if you want a decent mainstream Australian beer.

How in the world are either of these titles sexist in the slightest? Are you a man or woman? Are you the sole occupant of your home? Then you're a man or woman living alone! Stop projecting your own insecurities onto a completely neutral title.
