France: for a country that lives and breathes food, they have some awful kitchen appliances - the ovens are tiny, and include pictogram knobs instead of a temperature dial. PICTOGRAMS. It makes no sense.

I'm all for compromise, but what if your sig other's taste/eye for design is just really really bad/nonexistent? Yet he still wants to have input? And he can't articulate why he hates one thing but loves another? And you're in the foreign service so basically you get to move and redecorate every 3-4 years?

I'm doomed.

Seriously. All the money I had in college that could have gone towards decorating went towards books and beer. All the time I could have spent decorating also went towards books and beer.

my husband, while not a hoarder per se, has an odd and frustrating mindset that clothes and other items that he has not used in 10 years should be held on to because "I paid good money for that!". This man was still hanging on to khakis and basketball shoes from 1990, *just in case* he might need them. When we moved in together, it took a lot of arguing and finally a long long talk to get him to let go of 8 trashbags full of old clothes. This is what helped us:
1. Thinking through how he's gotten his money's worth, and how to make the best use of it now. Selling on craigslist, donating to goodwill for tax credits, giving to a homeless shelter were all ways to get that random item out there and used again.

2. Making sure he saw that I was cleaning out stuff too, that it wasn't just me clearing out his stuff.

3. Setting a deadline. Now when his pack-rat mom sends him home with old toys from the 80s (like an entire Smurf Village from 1983! WTF), hubby gets 1 month to find something to do with it. Otherwise it's got to go.

4. And this probably makes me a bad wife, but I totally sneak ratty things into the goodwill bag when he's away for the weekend. He never misses them!

Thanks everyone!! Waffles turned out great - just ended up doing them to order and fending off the hordes with egg casserole while they waited.

Next time:
1. I will make lemon curd!
2. I will try yeasted waffles!
3. I will DEFINITELY try some savory options - the recipe for the bacon stuffed waffles sounds ridiculously good.
4. I need a bigger apt/kitchen so I can have more people over for waffles!

I have a set of the Working Glasses from C&B, they are awesome for drinking and storing! We eat ice cream out of the short ones, too.

Leah says "like" about 20 times in every sentence. And she talks in baby talk to Hosea. And she sent out raw fish! I am so annoyed that she keeps getting saved despite parading around like a vapid 14 year old in a chef suit.

I grew up in a house where every monday was intense, all-day cleaning day. god forbid you didn't have school and mom needed to vacuum your room! and then if you got out of bed and left foot indentations in the freshly vacuumed carpet...watch out!!

I kind of went the complete opposite way for a while, but have settled into a once-a-month full cleaning of the apt. What makes a huge difference is cleaning up the little messes as they happen and putting things away after you use them. It's just common sense!

A few years ago we tried to institute a friendly family/neighbors kickball game. All was well at first, until the dads started getting a little competitive. My 8 year old niece ended up taking a line drive to the face, which left her with the nubby imprint of the big red ball on her cheek and not so fond memories of that "tradition"!!!!

Coming from MD, boiling crabs is an inherent part of life. Nothing wrong with it as long as we're thankful, respectful and understanding of the whole process that brought the crabs to your plate in the first place.
