Yes, it was inspired by the Mauve Boudoir in the Alexander Palace and I love it!

@GardenMuse

Thank you -- the reading room (or library, as I call it) is my favorite as well. Thank you for sharing the link to the Portrait of VV Issinskiy, it is a beautiful painting that I would love to have in my house

Yes, I see my home has generated quite a bit of heated debate. While I do not work as a historian, I do have a (hard earned!) Master's in History (specializing in Russia), speak Russian and lived in St. Pete for over two years. Anyway, I can understand anyone's fascination with the region -- both the good and the often very bad/sad -- and hope you can continue your study/reading.

@Jukesgrrl

I could not have said it better myself! Thank you.

@citgirl

I see my above comment was misunderstood, I meant my distance as someone who studies a period versus having lived through it or have family affected by it. As someone who has spent long hours reading about the horrors and sufferings throughout history I would never speak flippantly about it.

While not a PhD -- I escaped with my Master's -- I have training as a historian, although my Romanov pursuits are more a passion than a formal study. Although I did write a college thesis about images of Nicholas II in the modern era (1990s).

I wish my building had cupolas, but it is sadly not the case. That might be even a bit too over the top, even for me!

Thank you -- I think I am a master of slow decorating and I am not yet done!

Thank you for your comment. No, I am not of Romanov heritage, although I do feel connected to them from all my reading about their lives. I know it is a contradiction to have both Soviet propaganda and Romanov icons, but as a historian of the period suppose I am able to have both together due to the luxury of distance. I have studied the reign of Nicholas II, the revolutions, and the Civil War that followed -- most the posters are from that era.

In all honesty, I do not remember where I collected the posters, although the one original one from the 1980s (the large one in the middle) was from a traveling poster fair that was held at the summer language program I was at one summer. I think you could buy these online.

Thank you for the kind comments. While I did the large groups in the library and the smaller one in the living room, my parents were the key players (especially my mother) in the wall of Soviet posters.
