Daniel's Amazing Bones
Daniel's 614 square foot home is full of DIY goodness, NYC style. Located in Brooklyn, it is "one of those elusive NYC apartments that was rough around the edges but had amazing bones". Willing to make bold design choices, he's created a home on a budget that makes the most of the vintage details of the apartment while still feeling contemporary.
One lesson to take away from Daniel's small scale home is to always keep an open mind so you can see the possibilities instead of just the drawbacks. A very awkward, angled, long entrance hallway is no one's idea of a design plus, but seeing it instead as a rich source of wall space for much-needed storage cabinets and an optimum place to display an ever growing art collection is absolutely the right "small, cool" mindset.

Geoff's Southern Exposure Studio
Congratulations to Geoff, our International Division winner for 2012 with his sunny small space in Vancouver, Canada! The apartment itself has some always-welcome features such as a wall of southern exposure windows and a perfect patio for entertaining, but the clear reason for the Geoff's success in the competition is his design ingenuity and ability to make the most of limited space with style.
From his clean and organized styling of a pint sized kitchen (with cabinets that many renters will recognize!) to a wonderful looking DIY solution that turned an awkward corner into an enviable home workspace, Geoff's talent shines through. By keeping colors to a limited palette while introducing plenty of texture, he achieves a calm and uncluttered home that also feels personal and stylistically sophisticated.
