425What I Love About My Home
I fell in love with the architectural details. Designed as a gentleman's residence the building was constructed in 1915. There are push button light switches and the original intercom/buzzer is in the hallway. The Murphy Bed wall, tray ceiling and beautiful light really enhance the room.
Biggest Challenge in Furnishing My Home
Budget. Repaying student loans keeps the budget for furniture very low. Luckily, I have come across some great pieces within my price range. My favorite items were found at thrift stores, flea markets and on Craigslist (I am gradually weeding out the Ikea). I really enjoy finding well-worn, overlooked items and fixing them up. A little elbow grease not only does wonders but also helps promote sustainability.

That is one big closet! Would it be possible to build your bed in there, make it like an alcove bed?

I really like your trunk! After seeing a few "Hollywood Regency" style posts on AT, I've fallen in love with that mirrored table look. Your trunk is a great variation on that!
I also like that color panel in your kitchen. My kitchen is pretty tiny, and it is filled with white cabinets and white walls. I've painted most of the place, but it would be a lot of work to paint around everything in the kitchen. I LOVE the idea of a colorful panel like that. I think I just might steal your idea. :)

Ha! I just noticed what it says underneath your Eat Pie poster... I typically do not condone swearing, but that is hilarious!

How did you hang the partition between your seating area and bed? I also love the credenza and trunk. Great job w/your space!

I'm curious about the "Murphy bed wall" - there was a Murphy bed at one time, but now there isn't? Is there still the pull-down platform but no mattress? Is there some other way you could use it?
I love your divider curtain, the round mirror over the console, and the colorful panel in the kitchen. Also, eat pie, f*ck cake!

Way to rock a tight budget! I hope there is some strawberry rhubarb pie in your future. My mother in law would love the poster & she is the pie queen...

Lovely flat. May I be so boring as to ask where you found that gorgeous polka dot duvet cover? I've been somewhat obsessed since I saw it. Thanks!

Love it.....most of all love the trunk. Did you do it yourself? was it just a wooden finish? Do tell.....

I like those strong and masculine art deco lines in the ceiling. They totally make the room.
eat cake, fuck people who think it's offensive.
Hi Flora! your place looks great! love the poster, fuck the prudes.
Who knew that people with low standards were such haters? Perhaps empathy only kicks in with higher language skills?

Did you do the trunk yourself? I'm fascinated by this marvelous piece of furniture.

I want the EAT PIE sign! My sisters and I are always saying there isn't enough pie around! Really sweet and it does not read Ikea at all. I do love their cheap book cases. I have the same one. Also love the trunk coffee table, very chic. I have my Mom's cedar chest for mine.

Love your silver trunk and your credenza! Your use of space was excellent, you made separate areas in a very light & easy way. I was surprised to see the huge stereo, I didn't think anyone still had those but you managed to make it look nice. I'm guessing you are more of a music fan, than tv.
The architecture of your place is great! I'm jealous, so evident in the pic of your living seating area, the side wall and the ceiling are fabulous!
view mauishopgirl's profile
The tray ceiling and wall panels are really nice, they make the place look so sophisticated. Of course so does your decorating!
I agree with rlmesq, hide the stereo. It detracts from the beauty of that credenza.
I love the stainless steel counter in the kitchen. The kitchen cart is cool too. Of course, like everyone else, I think your credenza, steamer trunk, and pie poster are great.

Just to echo what many have said, I love the "Eat Pie" poster. All my friends are obsessed with cake. I don't get it. Pie is so much better.
view rickksb's profile
So much to love here - choices that keep the light bouncing around the room instead of dying are brilliant. The sleep/live/work space is airy and light, well positioned art without seeming fussy. One qualm is the kitchen. That wallpaper kills it visually and makes the pots and pans seem Lilliputian. Ugh.
Should be nice for a house tour in a year or so as things progress, no?
