960What I Love About My Home
I love that our home is across the street from a park and within walking distance to downtown. The size and the location are perfect for the three of us- my husband, me and our dog, Gertie. Also, this is the first house that I have owned, so it is also the first place where I have been able to have blue walls!
Biggest Challenge in Furnishing My Home
Our house has a challenging layout. There are heat vents and cold-air returns in the most inconvenient places. Also, the rooms are laid out in a way where it is hard to fill them with furniture while maintaining walking space.

I like your paintings. Also, is that a Jens Risom table in your living room?

This is exactly how I want my apartment to look. Breezy, sunny, a little bit vintage...

P.S. Second look - I adore the red lamps against the blue paint in your bedroom. Your place makes me feel happy.

How cute is Gertie! Adorable home, too. The look of the entire place, and not just the furniture in it, is a true mid-centiry vision.

I love your china cabinet in the living area! I would love to know where you got it? Also love your pottery collection and blue walls!

Wow, I'm really enjoying these comments. Thanks for the votes!
The china cabinet, and indeed much of my mid-century furniture, is from a great furniture consignment shop in my town. The name of the store is The Treasure Mart and it is definitely worth checking out if you ever find yourself in the Ann Arbor/Detroit area.

I admire your matching of colors through your home (I'm too wishy-washy to commit to one set for all rooms). They flow together very nicely and is a great color scheme.

It's interesting that many of the "small" flat in this contest (and past years too) are normal flat in Europe :-)
view serimarri's profile
I just don't think that this is a small flat for two people. I would be interested how you could fit in a family with two kids in it but like this? It is a lovely flat, but I think small cool should be about finding good solutions for small spaces and I don't really see that. I mean having a living room AND a den? Thats the opposite of having rooms and furniture do double duty.

love the use of light blue and red. seriously dislike your art.

I cannot imagine every feeling unhappy in your home. The kitchen put a huge smile on my face. Well done : )

funlinlin- the den is a bedroom that we put a t.v. a couch and a dining table in. trust me- its packed. however, you're right- this size is not cramped for the 2 of us, but we are short of storage and extra space, so there I definitely have to be careful about how much stuff we have and where it will go. If we have 2 kids we'll be putting them in here, so maybe I can update you with that some day. However, this is the "small" category and not the "teeny-tiny".
felttipjr: the paintings are by my husband. I can sell you some if you want :)

I love your style! Your place looks crisp and clean but still like a home. I love the ukes!
view ohmeursault's profile
@ChristineOC: I don't doubt that your den is packed. I just don't see why it is. Why not put the TV in the big living room (where you already have two couches). If you have the space to own three couches then I don't think you're living small. For me it isn't just about the size of the apartment but what you managed to actually fit in it. So if you have those two kids, still live in your flat and found good solutions how to make it work, you could reenter your apartment in the contest and I would probably vote for your. It would still be in the small category but now it would actually be a small flat for the amount of people living there.
Your flat is lovely, but from small cool I expect more than just lovely. I expect ideas and solutions about living in a small space. I can't really say that I really saw anything of that in your space. Like if I wrote an article about the 10 best tips for living in small apartments with real life examples- why should I include your apartment? What about your apartment should I include?
Don't take that personally, your flat is really nice, but it really doesn't give me what I want from small cool, so I won't vote for it. And I hope that more families would partake in the small category because I just don't think that the apartments in the small category are small if only one or two people are living there.
