What I Love About My Home

We love the panoramic view of Greenwich Village, especially at night. The floorplan is very open which gives it a loft-like feeling (minus the space and high ceilings, of course). We actually managed to have a sit-down Thanksgiving dinner for 7 with a table half in the bedroom, half in the living room. We also get great morning sun in the bedroom, which is much more pleasant than an alarm clock.

Biggest Challenge in Furnishing My Home

This is a small, white, open box that was stripped of original architectural detail when it was renovated. We were also asked not to paint the walls. We're definitely not minimalists, so it's been a balancing act to give it character and personality, while keeping it functional and organized. Plus we've always got to find room for the 7-foot painting of Prince Charles that follows us wherever we go.

The owl pillow on the couch is very cute.

I love the painting in the middle on the bedroom wall.

Of ALL the apartments in this contest, this is by far my favorite. So much character, irony, soul, elegance. I keep expecting Don Draper to come out of the kitchen in a bathing suit and an open tiki shirt, stirring a scotch with his finger. Shhhhhhhhhh.

Anyway, everyting is so well curated, not a cliche in sight. I would say that I have no words to describe how much I love it, but obviously I do.

I'm going to look at it again now and put off doing work a little longer. I think some 60's Samba is in order.

P.S. Your landlord is a fool. Anyone can see whatever color you chose would be fantastic.

I'm back.

Nice dish towel! Very timely.

Kudos on knowing where and how to hang art (frames hung too high make me nuts).

Okay, I'll drop by later.

I just decided that I appreciate Charles much more than I thought. How can you help it, when it turns out he has such presence? ;) Actually, I enjoyed all the art there was to see in your home-- the wall of ships, especially (in addition to HRH, of course).

I like how you placed pictures in the kitchen above the cabinets. I might use that idea!

Very beautiful. Cabinetry and wood flooring is very tasteful and gives it a warm feel. I would like to see pics of the bathroom.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments, they're really appreciated!
@azaleasmoke the painting is by an artist collective called Faile.
@cvgmiami we are having something delicious for the Royal Wedding. Thanks for the wonderful comments!
@KasieB the table is vintage "Danish Modern" according to the person we bought it from.

@cvgmiami we are actually having toad in the hole!
@shernobyl I wish! It's actually Otto Preminger's (James Bond director) ex wife Mary's work. Not quite as prestigious as a Kandinsky :)

It's rather sad that it was stripped of the original architectural detail.

With that said I think your space is warm, sophisticated and lovely. You've definitely achieved a nice balance of what you set out to do--the character and personality.

I'm looking at buying a small studio in Portland. Wish I had the sense of style that you have. Your home is lovely. Thanks for sharing the photos. My studio will look eclectic, the catch-all word for just a mish -mash of things that don't go together!
