282What I Love About My Home
While searching for an apartment in New York City, I came across a small, garden-level studio in Park Slope, Brooklyn. After viewing numerous places significantly larger in size, it was the structural & built-in details of this historic brownstone that captured my eye: from the tin ceiling to the wood floors and moldings, I was immediately able to picture myself living in such a charming, well-laid out space. For such a small interior, it has a distinct living, sleeping and kitchen area, each of which are functional, comfortable and efficient. Everything I have introduced to this space has created, for me, a vibrant and restorative home.
Biggest Challenge in Furnishing My Home
Finding the perfect sofa - after two flee market finds it became obvious over time that these seating options were merely glorified chairs. I finally found a sofa that complemented the space and was actually comfortable to sit on! Although I had every intention of purchasing a vintage piece, after exhausting all options, I found a couch online that was unique enough to fit in with the rest of the design elements in my apartment.

I'm looking for a "low-loft" bed similar to yours ... where did you get it? Or if you built it, specs?
Thanks!

You did a great job on adding umpf to such a small bathroom.
The idea of a high bed with just a regular step ladder to climb up on is so cool. Do you feel like Tom Hanks in the movie Big when you climb into that thing? I stay in hostels and when I end up in the top bunk I always think "I am too old for this crap!" Do you ever feel like that when you climb up there?
Wow it is hard to really make a kitchen look good when everything is out in the open but you made it look visually pleasing.

@heatherC - that is so cool! thank you for posting! of course i'm always looking for things that are multifunctional, and i've never seen anything like that before!
@besscake - the apartment came with the lofted bed. it's really like a built-in because it's the only storage in the apartment.
@housevoyeur - you know i have to be honest that when i first looked at the place i wasn't sure about the lofted bed, but it's the perfect height....it's really just a couple steps up, but just enough to feel like a bedroom up there! i've come to really love it.

The use of vintage and functional items for their design is wonderfully executed. Love the punches of color from these elements. I liked that you didn't avoid showing the bathroom which is so tempting to do when there are dated elements. Brave and Bravo!

love the sofa; was it a thrift store find or something more widely available?
view Brian Mac's profile
@pamelaL and @brianmac - the sofa is from west elm!
@smuckleness - the rug was custom designed so i hope you haven't seen it anywhere! :)

I love this apartment and the styling of it! I like the vintage meets modern feel and the little splashes of color. I especially like the picture of the baby playing in the clothes rack!

Very neat! The robot on the living room shelf and the toilet paper made me laugh :) The bed is really cool and I love the kitchen.

It's so hard to make a studio livable but you're right -- the layout separates the living areas really nicely and you've taken great advantage of that. Nice light, too, especially for a ground floor, that you've maximized with your color and furniture selections. Bravo!

very well done! great use of the space and that built in lofted bed would've totally sold me on the place. I get a kick whenever I get the chance to hop into a lofted or bunk bed lol.
