What I Love About My Home

While searching for an apartment in New York City, I came across a small, garden-level studio in Park Slope, Brooklyn. After viewing numerous places significantly larger in size, it was the structural & built-in details of this historic brownstone that captured my eye: from the tin ceiling to the wood floors and moldings, I was immediately able to picture myself living in such a charming, well-laid out space. For such a small interior, it has a distinct living, sleeping and kitchen area, each of which are functional, comfortable and efficient. Everything I have introduced to this space has created, for me, a vibrant and restorative home.

Biggest Challenge in Furnishing My Home

Finding the perfect sofa - after two flee market finds it became obvious over time that these seating options were merely glorified chairs. I finally found a sofa that complemented the space and was actually comfortable to sit on! Although I had every intention of purchasing a vintage piece, after exhausting all options, I found a couch online that was unique enough to fit in with the rest of the design elements in my apartment.

I'm looking for a "low-loft" bed similar to yours ... where did you get it? Or if you built it, specs?
Thanks!

You did a great job on adding umpf to such a small bathroom.

The idea of a high bed with just a regular step ladder to climb up on is so cool. Do you feel like Tom Hanks in the movie Big when you climb into that thing? I stay in hostels and when I end up in the top bunk I always think "I am too old for this crap!" Do you ever feel like that when you climb up there?

Wow it is hard to really make a kitchen look good when everything is out in the open but you made it look visually pleasing.

@heatherC - that is so cool! thank you for posting! of course i'm always looking for things that are multifunctional, and i've never seen anything like that before!
@besscake - the apartment came with the lofted bed. it's really like a built-in because it's the only storage in the apartment.
@housevoyeur - you know i have to be honest that when i first looked at the place i wasn't sure about the lofted bed, but it's the perfect height....it's really just a couple steps up, but just enough to feel like a bedroom up there! i've come to really love it.

The use of vintage and functional items for their design is wonderfully executed. Love the punches of color from these elements. I liked that you didn't avoid showing the bathroom which is so tempting to do when there are dated elements. Brave and Bravo!

It's so hard to make a studio livable but you're right -- the layout separates the living areas really nicely and you've taken great advantage of that. Nice light, too, especially for a ground floor, that you've maximized with your color and furniture selections. Bravo!
