What I Love About My Home

We love that our place is constantly changing. It changes depending on what flea markets we go to that weekend, it changes on what we find outside on trash day, and it changes with the seasons or whatever is at the farmers market. It keeps it (and us) on our toes.

Biggest Challenge in Furnishing My Home

One of the biggest challenges was figuring out a work/live situation, without feeling like we are living in an office. The work area has moved around a bit, and we finally have a situation where it basically blends away, and we don't have that office feeling.

I really like all the vintage ads! Very eclectic looking without being too over the top... it seems like a fun place to be in :)

Maximalist yet airy, impressive. What's the story of the bed?

Where did you get the bed. That is great!

Really well done! It's pretty busy, but not in a distracting way, more of a cozy, want to hang out and see everything kind of way. I really like the wall of shelves in the living room - it helps add continuity and cohesion.

Also, I think it's fabulous how you integrated your work areas in the living space. I have to wonder on a lot of the great-looking apartments in this contest about the functionality of the space, but you managed both form and function.

I also love the bed, but I'm pretty sure I would stub my toe on it at least twice a day.

Thanks for all the comments, folks! I really appreciate it. Love the word Maximalist. Pretty much everything everyone has asked about was most likely ebay or from the street and refurbished. The coffee table is an aluminum base, and the top is mirror. We have actually never stubbed our toes on that bed, the legs are actually under the platform, and not so far out as it might look.

Too much stuff for my taste.... but... it's still extremely fascinating because for some reason it's cohesive. Love all the graphics. Adding you to my favorites. Good luck.

Wish the submission let you have mire photos, but maybe a home tour will be featured in the future. Love your use of advertising as art. So many unique treasures throughout -- looks like there will always be a conversation starter in your home.

Paint colors are really lovely with the eclectic abundance, they are the soothing calm around the storm of fun eye candy. And the Magikist Lips sign gave me such a pang for my childhood in Chicago -- the giant undulating lite-up version fascinated me as a kid (when passing it on the way to, I think, O'Hare Airport. Sigh. Great collection, and great job of curating it all.

Nicely done. You should apprentice with John Derian.

And please post a close-up of the up-cycled chair in the kitchen which looks like it reads "depressed."

I love your sense of style coupled with whimsy and maximalism. Looks like you really live there. A plus.

Nice! I love the layered, collected feel. Everything works quite well together and your personality is very visible. It isn't how I imagine my dream home, but it is certainly very well done and I am sure fits your personality.

Also! I really like how your workspace and living space is so integrated without either seeming like it is overlapping or crowding the other... that desk is great!

A great place to call home, I can see it is a livable area, not so uppety that you can't walk in with shoes on. Love the tile and everything in the kitchen. Great job.

Hi, here are the details on the bed. http://www.bonluxat.com/a/Alfredo_Haberli_Legnoletto_Bed.html. You should note that it is a platform and can be a bit tough on bad backs. But, it is indeed a thing of beauty.

I want to roll around on the floor of your living room so badly! It looks so amazingly cozy. I LOVE the layering and I love that, akin to my own personal tastes, the color palette and overall look err towards the masculine, but the texture gives just enough femininity to balance it out. Seriously, if I bring my own sleeping bag can I move into your living room? I feel like it's better in there than out here.

For me, the amount of novelties are a bit too similar to the decor in a TGI Friday's. But I'm sure that there's a constant rotation of great finds. Love your ETSY store!

I like the perkiness of the place. I've been looking at prewar apts in Jackson Heights and wonder which ones you think are the nicest. Would love to see your bathroom -- the stand alone shower is a wonderful thing!

a lot of great choices here. I personally prefer having an office that does look office-y, and is more separate as a space - otherwise I am too tempted to just lie on the couch or make dinner during work hours! But that depends on work habits and apartment layouts, and I love the shelves and other details that combine work life with home life.

Out of all the amazing entries this year, yours is my absolute favourite. It's everything small cool is all about, your vintage ads are a real collection and not just a try hard attempt at retro, your bedroom is amazing (I never would have thought to put oriental with that blue!). Love all your refurbished finds, and I don't think you need to edit the space at all! It's perfect and I love it, well done.
