525What I Love About My Home
I love the light in my home and the relatively open layout. There are a ton of great old features in my apartment--the beautiful hardwoods, the claw foot tub, the radiators and the glass paned kitchen cabinets. They are what drew me to this place immediately. I love this old place, even if its full of "quirks" and has been updated patchwork style over the years.
Biggest Challenge in Furnishing My Home
Furnishing this place was first a challenge because of my budget. As a teacher, I don't have a lot to spend on beautiful furniture. Which is a shame because I love beautiful furniture! I've created this place with flea market finds and a collection of vintage treasures that I've carried with me through the years. There aren't a lot of options as to how to arrange things. It only took me a little while to find out where to put everything and, in that way, the apartment sort of arranged itself.

Hello Laura,
I love your place, especially the bookcase/shelving unit in your kitchen(?). Can you tell me where you got it as I am looking for something exactly like it.

Laura, your place just goes to show that you do not need to spend lots of money, to make your home beautiful-I love America. I'm jealous of the old school map over the bed. I do also have one suggestion to offer(sorry). I think the map would look even better centered above only the bed.

I love your apartment. It looks like both of our Portland apartments have the same issue: poor kitchen drawer tracking. One of the quirks with living in these old (read: awesome) apartments.

I love your night stand, it's really cute! I personally love the layout of your apartment, it all flows together nicely!

Extra point for a brown(ish), boxy couch & 2 black Parsons tables for a coffee table. (I, too, have a brown, boxy couch & those 2 tables, though mine are separated. As it happens I also used to have an old school chair piled high with books & magazines. Are we the same person?!)
I love how your place looks lived in & how after a long day it is probably the best place to be - very comfy!

Add me to those who are wondering about the bookshelf! I've been trying to track one down... is it Ikea, but no longer made? Perhaps?
...very cute space. I love it!

Thanks, everyone! Wow, it's so cool to be a part of this. The bookshelf is Ikea and I believe they don't make it anymore unfortunately!

How do I say this...some apartments on here are very slick, super fancy, but have all the warmth of a museum. You apartment is warm and inviting and makes me feel like a really cool, nice person lives here. Corny but true! You got my vote.

Yea for a fellow teacher and lover of pull down maps! I have a 1950's French Colonial Africa school map one in my dining area and love it- plus it makes for a cool conversation piece as it's so dated. I would center yours over your bed though. Nice job- very livable :D
