470What I Love About My Home
My 470 sq ft condo is situated in the beautiful tudor building built in 1928 on the charming pre-depression landmark block. Despite its âtinyâ size, I love its open floor plan with unique period details such as coved ceiling, hardwood floors, leaded glass windows, built-in dining nook, and funky tiffany-blue tiles in the bathroom. Having a âtinyâ condo has motivated me to paint and be crafty. I first started painting because I could not afford to buy any real paintings for my place, but it has become my favorite pastime. I also made a toilet paper holder out of a retro phone and a kitchen ceiling light fixture out of a colander.
Biggest Challenge in Furnishing My Home
The small size of the space has forced me to become more creative with my decoration choices in order to avoid clutterness and create a comfortable, inviting space. All my furniture is space-conscious. Clean lines and petite sizes, but comfortable. I chose green and yellow for the wall colors because of its warmth and coziness. Although it is a studio condo, I have tried my best to give each space its own character. I did not want my studio condo look like a studio. For example, my living room is very simple and cozy yet my kitchen is full of colors and very retro.

Creative and simple. I LOVE it! Suki has an eye for color, space, and innovation with recycled materials. The bathroom is on point!

Very charming hippy-kinda feel to this place. A little rough around the edges but still quite sweet. That bathroom is lovely. Don't like the speakers or whatever they are beside the fireplace. They are visually distracting, and all that "stuff" piled on top of the kitchen cabinets needs to be put in baskets or tidied up in some way.

I love green walls and that twinkling light...

At first I was put off by the drapes hiding the light in the first pic, this window looks superb, but then the diamond shaped window, the little bedroom nook, the whole bathroom are so adorable, I'm won over.

The bathroom tile is so cute! Very creative with the living room light--a colander, who knew?

Lovely space. I have fairy lights in my kitchen also. Love the glow and happiness they bring every time I step in that room. I would also like to know what is the pretty picture next to the fridge. I am a girl who love colors, so it really caught my eye.

LOL. That retro phone dialer holding the toilet paper was amazing!

Is that a church pew in your living room? The beautiful wood looks great with your color scheme.

Loved this place when it was a house tour. I remembered it. Very nice use of color and I love the bohemian vibe.

Where are your speakers from?

So cozy and cute... really love it! I remember it too - I loved the bench at your kitchen table then, and I love it now! :)

cute kitchen and I'm envious that the deco tile in your bathroom is still en tact

Suki has great taste! I love how she integrates funky and retro details into her classic studio.

out of all the apartments choices I've seen so far, this one actually looks like someone lives here and cozy enough for someone like me to actually live in.

Beautiful! I particularly like the pew, kitchen cabinets, & bathroom tile. The furniture & paint colors compliment each other very well, except for the speakers, which I don't care for at all.
The white trash can sticks out a bit. I would try red to match the stool. Black or stainless might work, as well.
I would like to know where you are located as I am from Seattle, as well.

@ carolynapplebee, yes it is! I transformed it to a toilet paper holder after emptying out the inside.
@ Klaus Sonnenleiter, it is actually an acrylic painting my friend and I did.
@Honore, it is a pew. I keep all my DVDs and manga books in its bible pocket.
@Heather C, the speakers are from glow audio. They sound amazing. http://www.glow-audio.com/home.html
@ Roozter, my condo is located on Capitol Hill.

I like this very much, despite finding out that I am turning into my mother ("wash the dishes and made the bed before you invite people over!") and that the speakers on either side of the fireplace, along with the candles in the "mouth", make the face of a cartoon character that I'm sure I can remember the name of if I try....

I am in love this place!!! So creative!

Cute and creative place! I adore the black and white checkerboard tile in the kitchen, the fireplace, and the vintage phone toilet-paper holder and church pew are utterly charming. Takes a great sense of humor and a creative eye to pull that off. Mad kudos.
However...
Chunky Christmas lights in the kitchen with that gorgeous tile? They totally bum me out.
They eyeball speakers??? My EYE immediately went to them instead of the lovely fireplace. Plus, they're kinda freaky. :-/
Again, overall, it's pretty much adorable.

Hi Neighbor! Love your condo! It has so much character. My favorite is the pew in the living room and the colander light in the kitchen.

LOL: I actually thought the "eyball speakers" looked like eggs!

Why didn't you tidy up before you took pictures? The dishes in the sink look messy and the christmas lights and eyeballs make it look like a freaky dorm room.

Hi everyone, sorry if my sink looks messy. I actually finished the dishes when my photographer friend stopped by, but I honestly forgot to put them away and did not think it looked bad.
The lights are made out of shotgun shells. I think it is cool. :)
The eyeball speakers and tube amplifiers are made by glow audio and play all my favorite music beautifully.
I appreciate all your feedbacks and feel incredibly lucky that I have been chosen for this year's contest. Thanks everyone.

Hey, you've got my alternate universe apartment! I'm in a 1929 building on capitol hill, also with a green living room, also with a retro kitchen with dining nook (though I've always wished we had the checkerboard floor you do), also with a bed enclosed on three sides. My place is a little bigger, and someone renovated my bathroom so I'm very envious of yours, but long story short, I like your taste and I'm favoriting you.

I love it! It's so cute! The cabinets are great. I love the sleeping nook. Can't believe all that awesomeness fits in 470 square feet!

This is my favorite. Nothing pretentious or overwhelming. Focus on comfort and pacticality, but very well put together, in an understated way. I'd feel comfortable here. The colors are nice, the art is complementary. I like the ceiling lights in the main living area, nd I like the eyeball speakers, much better look than the usual bulky square box. Hope they sound as nice as they look Where do you get those?

I see a number of comments regarding the orb shaped speakers. They are GLOW Audio and are available in different colors from glow-audio.com. They are the greenest speakers you can buy, the enclosures are made from recycled scrap wood, and the speaker cones are actually made from bamboo and hemp fibers. They sound very natural as a result. In the photo they are on custom Audiowood stands, made of bamboo. They don't look, or sound, like "ordinary" speakers. Their small size is perfect for a small condo like Suki's.

Suki,
Don't mind grumpy Confettimeg. No need to apologize. She's obviously so OCD she can't appreciate an invitation to someone's home without criticizing what's in their sink. It's her loss that she missed all the creative touches in your home.
Retro phone as toilet paper holder. What wonderful imagination you have!

Love your place! Very dramatic lighting. But I do hate hate hate string lights anytime that isn't the holidays or a party. I'd have to pull them down.
