584What I Love About My Home
Our "view" is my favorite feature. When we moved to the Brooklyn waterfront, we had the option of purchasing a home with a view for an additional $150K. So we did the next best thing. We took a photo from the other side of the building and had it turned into wallpaper. I love looking at the Manhattan skyline every day and it makes our small space seem larger and more open.
Biggest Challenge in Furnishing My Home
In any small space, storage is an obvious challenge. For us, it was finding a storage bed that would hold as much as we needed AND looked good in our modern apartment. After scouring the internet and local stores and coming up empty, we had this bed custom made. It has four large drawers in the base, four smaller drawers (perfect for drawers!) in the platform and two cubby holes.

Your home office is very cool :)

That "view" is a great idea! Very resourceful, and a heck of a lot cheaper than $150K!

Lovely kitchen, I'm very curious about the "luggage" office space, was it custom-made ? You can close the whole thing easily ?

Thanks! The office comes from Restoration Hardware (the Mayfair) and was a bit of a splurge but worth it for the storage. You can close it, but it's pretty heavy. Still, I'm able to do it and I'm a weakling. It's just not something I want to do every day.

Love the acid green wall.

love the office idea and the creativity. Just a question, do people like sleeping facing a mirror? Or does it reflect light or a view?

Classy foto of Manhattan Great little space. Looks like it is well situated in one of the trendy new neighborhoods in Brooklyn judging from the angle in the photograph.

Ok, I'm gonna need the deets on that bed. We need something exactly like that! We have a platform bed on risers with Lack shelves flanking the bed. It's a hodgepodge and your bed would completely remedy this! Love the place!!

xand83 -- We got the bed at MDC International in NYC on Broadway and 20th. I read some awful things about them on yelp and some other places, but we had no problem with them. The most important thing when we designed it was to mount the nightstands on the wall so that we could actually open the drawers. I saw so many nightstands pushed up next to drawers so that you couldn't get into them. Crazy!
arnold -- We don't really "face" the mirror per se but it does reflect a lot of light and we can check it to see what our cats are up to in the other part of the apartment.

love your wallpaper view, but your bedding doesn't match at all and is way too distracting!

I was not expecting the combination of pink/orange on one side of the room and apple green on the other. It totally works, thanks to the neutrals in between.

Who did you use to turn the photo into wallpaper? I love that! I would really like to do something similar in my bedroom.

Thank you for all of your comments. This is the first time I've been able to really decorate an apartment after renting for so long and your kindness is very encouraging.
ttara/Squarah -- We took the photo ourselves and added some extra water via Photoshop (so that the buildings would land above the headboard) then sent it in to shop4wallpaper.com.

The office area is awesome. Love, not only that it is luggage and can be closed but it defines the space. Great ideas. Also love the green wall!

It's not really my style, but I like the creative office space, the layout and inviting atmosphere. Nicely done!

Your office area is a great idea, but I have to agree with the comment above. I think your bedding really lets it down. It seems to draw my attention away from the skyline poster and wish you had just a simple white bed spread or something like that?
But otherwise good job in making the most of a tiny area!

WOW!!! Marissa, that's quite a change from the pictures you showed me before it was all decorated! It's gorgeous!!! I'm jealous and your cats must love the wide open space and the "kitty TV" of the windows. Nice job REALLY well thought out on the space savers and I don't notice the pillar anymore, it's a nice room seperation

you know I just saw that luggage desk at restoration hardware and thought it was amazing but wondered how it look in an actual home. Well done with your space!
