Color Inspiration
My teenager daughter fell in love with the graphic Amy Butler bedspread. We coupled the pattern with the charcoal gray wall for high contrast. To warm up the space, we added yellow in equally bold patterns. She wanted a mural on the wall and the arch of the wind blown tree gently frames her low, loungey bed.
Color Tips
Defining your color palette is a must. Three colors work well. Let one color play the lead with the rest following. For example, yellow is the dominant color in this room, taking up nearly 2/3 of room. The charcoal gray is limited to the accent wall. The white serves as a needed place for your eye to rest in this bright and graphic room. Even with a focused color palette, there's still room for pops of color like the kelly green dresser or turquoise lamp.

I think that all the yellow and white pillows need to go, less is more. I love the room otherwise.

This is definitely way more interesting than my room when I was a teenager, but why is the bed on the floor?

Where did you find that Amy Butler bedspread? Must have.

It looks like you need a bed frame...from what I've read they're necessary to allow proper circulation under the mattress and prevent mold growth.

One of my favorite color combinations! Very lovely!

The bed is actually a trundle bed. My daughter preferred sleeping on the lower level so we got rid of the top section. The low bed allows the mural to be more be visible.

I purchased my Amy Butler bedspread at Bed Bath and Beyond at one point, but I am not sure if they still have it in stock.

Beautiful! I have a grey and yellow theme going on in my bedroom right now, thanks to a DwellStudio bedspread from Target.
Does anyone know the source for that awesome wall mural? Is it a decal or was it actually painted on?

Beautiful. A LOT of teens love their beds on the floor. I did the same at that age. Very beautiful.

Very cute. I love that you didn't stop at yellow and gray, you added blue and green, but didn't overdo it either. That's what the color contest is all about, great USE of color.

This is so pretty. Wish my room had been this cute! (It was pink with a border of little houses.) Love it!

great design 4 teen. I would have changed only 1 thing and would have had the yellow be the accent color and had the gray anchor the room.

Aha, the tree is a wall decal -- sold on Etsy by this seller: http://www.etsy.com/listing/33236342/huge-tree-blowing-in-the-wind-wall-decal

Wow! I wish I would have known there was a decal before I took a week painting the whole thing.
Thanks for all the compliments!

Love this! Don't regret the week painting. Decals are cool but there is really something extra special about a painted mural.

mauishopgirl - this is definitely the decal from Etsy, I think the comment earlier about it taking a week to paint was tongue-in-cheek.

Great room...Love the bedside "table"...source?

Oops, sorry, tell your daughter she did a fantastic job, and judging by the votes her hard work is paying off. Good luck!
view britabroad's profile
C. Love - Thanks - the side table is made from two recycled industrial lamp shades made of translucent plastic. We glued them together, topped it with a wooden round that we found at Lowe's and stained. Finally we placed an uplight inside of it. Total cost was about $40. It puts off a wonderful glow at night.

Britabroad - there was no tongue and check. She did paint the tree by hand. She did an image search online for trees and then projected it onto the wall. I don't know that she used the image from that specific etsy sight but they are definitely the same tree image.

Lovely job - the bedside table is very pretty and the green dresser adds just the right additional pop of color to stop it all looking to matchy matchy.

The tree looks amazing and the three colors you chose look great together.
