Katrina's "Magenta Blues" Room

Magenta Blues

Name:

Katrina

Location:

Austin, Texas

Division:

South

Colors Used

Magenta, Blue, Purple, Grey, Cream with a little aqua and pale yellow-green. I love color!

Color Inspiration

I have always wanted to decorate with magenta, but didn't want to make the room too girly because I have to keep the hubby happy! So, I used an analogous color palette with lots of muted blue tones and cream to balance the magenta, cobalt and purple. The room started with the paint - the pale icy blue and the muted stormy blue-grey accent wall. I found the quilt and shams at Home Goods with the color palette and international vibe I wanted and it all fell into place. I made all the art myself to help reinforce the color palette and found a new home for my cobalt blue glass that I have had forever.

Color Tips

Most importantly, use colors that you love and make you happy. If you like bold colors but are afraid, just use small pops with muted neutrals. Find one inspiration piece that has all the colors in it you want to use, then bring in other items in those different colors. I have found that all colors can look good together in the right balance of muted and bright and dark and light.

Love the painting and the palette. Beautiful balance with bold color splashes but not overly feminine.

Thank you so much y'all! Most of the furniture is from Room and Board, including the bed and the yummy cherry chair. They no longer carry the chair - but it is stamped with A. Sibau, an italian furniture company I believe. I would love to have another one. My hubby and I were in Amsterdam and walked into a cafe filled with the chairs which we thought was totally awesome! I found some on 1stdibs recently - but they are not easy to get your hands on anymore. The paint colors are Pittsburgh Paints Ocean Dream and Prophetic Sea.
