Sara's "Smoke, Citron and Cream" Room
Smoke, Citron and Cream
Location:La Porte, Texas
Benjamin Moore HC-166 Kendall Charcoal in semi-gloss on the bookcases floor to ceiling and the trim. Walls and ceiling are HC-166 Kendall Charcoal in flat finish. Citron and taupe for the chair fabric with a milk-white chair finish and a silvered and crema stone topped study table.
I wanted a tough neutral that had a lot of depth to give the room a cohesive and strong backdrop for the gray Italian tile and the study table and chairs. Kendall Charcoal is a warm gray that looks great with just about any color. It is magic for setting off the fabric of the chairs and the layering of creams, silvers and golds in the furniture finishes.
The simplest way to create a cohesive color scheme is to use distinct values of colors in a similar range of intensities. This allows you to create depth and harmony even if using several hues because there will be enough separation between each hue to avoid a color clash. The other important factor is color balance. This room shares warm and cool elements and the warm undertone of the charcoal in the paint color creates a cohesive tie to connect the warm and cool parts of the palette.
