Anna's "Whimsical Color" Room
Whimsical Color
Name:
AnnaLocation:
Minneapolis, MinnesotaDivision:
NorthColors Used
A whimsical mix of strong coral reds and oranges and airy light blues, plus the earthy green which was already painted on the walls when we moved in.
Color Inspiration
I have a collection of colorful handmade ceramics that I like to use on an everyday basis and display in the kitchen. I believe in eating a rainbow of foods and I like for our kitchen to reflect that beauty in our meals.
Color Tips
Surround yourself with the colors you are naturally drawn to without worrying about the rules. Play with opposites, in this case, strong oranges with airy and watery blues.

Just love the "Lemonade Stand".

I love your kitchen. What do you have framed by your eating area? It almost looks like small squares of fabric. It's lovely.

The framed art at the table is made by me. They are color studies for three quilts I am planning for each of my kids. The fabrics in the art are remnants from their out grown, worn out clothing and serves as the inspiration for the quilts.

i love that artwork - very inspiring - and the trays under the white dishes are so cute and a great idea instead of place mats!!

This is beautiful. Totally stealing your art work idea too! The wallpaper is Orla Kiely. I've been looking for that colour for ages. Thanks for sharing your home. I would love to see more.

Thank you for the sweet comments.
Yes, it's Orla Kiely wallpaper. I had extra so put some at the back of the cabinets from which I had removed the doors. This really cheered up the room.
So glad you enjoy the artwork too. I have only finished one of the quilts so far (middle) for my daughter. The quilt study on the right is Orion, for my son's middle name. Working on this one next.

Anna -- do you have an Etsy account? I'm not so DIY, but love your "table" art. Do you sell? LL

I love orange. I love Orla Keily. I love open shelving and I'm going to love quilting (when I start!) My only question: How to convince husband to let me take the doors off the cabinets?

I want to see more too, and what is the color in the dining area on top?

I am in love with all the gorgeous woodwork in your house. Did you refinish it all or were you lucky enough to get it in that condition?
view kmehl's profile
Lucky! It's an old house (circa 1895) so it comes with plenty of character, and plenty of necessary TLC.

I dusted off the old Etsy site just for you all. On the site you can view, or order one for yourself, the fabric wall art seen above the kitchen table.

I love your home - just looked at your other entries from previous years. I've been trying to go for a similar look in my own home, but I'm not having much success with it. Now that I've seen your home, I have a little more direction!
