Color Inspiration

We were fortunate to have the space to add this master suite, to our 1948 tract home, almost 17 years ago. It's a real luxury to have such a large space, but I also wanted it to feel intimate and serene. The room gets lots of light, so I thought I'd go dark on the walls. I started out painting the master bath Palladian Blue, which I really love, but since the bath, dressing area and bedroom all flow into each other, I wasn't sure how to incorporate the blue into the bedroom and the dark brown color, I wanted to use on the walls. Once I found the wallpaper (I used it on one wall in the bedroom and in the adjoining dressing area), I think it all came together and created a cozy space. I love the way the colors change throughout the day and night, too.

Color Tips

It's always good to have a master plan, when it comes to color. I love most colors and decorating styles, so sticking to a plan, is something I really struggle with. Go with what you love, be flexible, because sometimes you don't pick the color, the color picks you!

I signed up just to ask you what's going on with the fabric beside your bed? It looks amazing, what is it? I mean the brown folded material that's really visible in the first photo.

SkylarkMelody's "parental" comment made me smile. I'd guess I'm one of the more senior followers of AT, being 60 (and a grandma, truth be told).

Agree on the bathroom, totally random, but I love NY and Chinese lanterns, so it works for me!

The bed came from www.claudiorayes.net. I bought it about 15 years ago, and absolutely love it! Thanks for your nice comments.

The Roman shades covering the windows are dupioni silk, and I ordered them from Calico Corners. Thanks Sleeksoph!
