Color Inspiration
This dining room was truly just a collection over time. The first colorful piece added was the china cabinet which started out as a full wood toned garage sale find. We chose the paint color based on a tone of green in our living room rug, in order to tie the two rooms together in a subtle way. Then came the DIY curtains, which are painted drop cloths and lots of colorful collected accessories some from our travels and others made at home like our DIY burlap pillows, complete with a green stripe down the center to match our cabinet. This is by far our favorite room in our home. It's eclectic, collected and very much a reflection of our personalities.
Color Tips
If you like a color, just go for it. In most cases it's just paint which is fairly inexpensive and can always be changed. Don't be afraid to try out something you think you'll love.

You can check out her blog for details on the curtains - if I remember correctly it was a stencil that took her weeks to finish :)

Love the china cabinet! My parents-in-law have been trying to give us one of those for ages (it's an old heavy wood piece). Painting might be the perfect way to update it!

More importantly than how beautiful the curtains are, is the placement of the rod and where they are hung. By hanging them just beneath the crown molding, there is a nice balanced simplicity of lines in the space. This also adds nice length to the curtains to make them a focal point. Smashing!

I love the softness of the colors. The blue in the curtains with the torquoise color of the cabinet is especially striking.
