Heather's "Mid-Mod" Room

Mid-Mod

Name:

Heather

Location:

Brookfield, Wisconsin

Division:

North

Colors Used

Crisp white, Chartreuse green, Espresso brown and Turquoise

Color Inspiration

This house was built in 1960 and we are the second owners, so the house was a time capsule. The original slate flooring in the foyer has a range of turquoise that we loved and my all time favorite color is chartreuse green. I found a wallcovering that integrated both the turquoise and chartreuse and used one drop in the center of a large wall as artwork.

Color Tips

Use solids for the upholstery on your furniture and build in color and pattern through your accessories like draperies, pillows and rugs.

LOVE IT! A gorgeous, luxurious and sophisticated color palette used so well - this is such a beautiful expression of a modern take on mid-century design - great job, Heather - you totally rocked it!

I love the bold use of color and pattern! This room feels fresh, modern, and sophisticated. Curling up on the Womb chair for a good day dream would be heavenly. Love it!

Really love how you used that wallcovering! I'd love to know where you found that. It looks great with that bench.

The wallcovering is a commercial wallcovering by Stacy Garcia called "Shoji Stripe" and it was a gift from the wallcovering rep.

So soothing! Lovely. Is that a genuine Womb Chair? Or is it a replica? I've been wanting a womb chair for so long, but the real ones are just way too expensive at my current budget.

Heather, if it is a replica, how do you like it? Is it comfy?

I like the color palette, and esp. like the like wall with wallpaper and bench together. But why is the sofa placed at that angle? The placement and scale of the living room furniture isn't quite right, to my eyes.

oh, it's really beautiful! I hope you win. But I have the same question about the sofa, why is it placed at an angle?

FAVORITE ROOM of the competition! Good work making it look modern yet also keeping with the home's era. Love it.

The sofa has been a point of contention with me as well. Message received, angled bad, straight good. Thanks for the feedback. The credenza is the Crate and Barrel Jasper (no longer available) and 'yes' the Womb is a reproduction. The Womb is so comfortable and the wool boucle upholstery has such a great mid-century vibe.
Thank you for all of the kind words. This room has been 2 years in the making. Originally it was all baby blue walls and draperies with Cookie Monster thick blue carpeting. If finally feels like our house now.

i'd love to see what your kitchen looks like. i'm redoing mine with a mid-mod aesthetic and would love to see if you have anything inspiring for that room since this was done so well.

The kitchen is so hideous, being that it is a time capsule in a bad way, that I haven't even photographed it. I have a total re-design planned to the tee.
The living room turquoise is Sherwin Williams Teal Stencil SW0018. It's so beautiful! The photos can capture it!

Totally unexpected. Gorgeous. Love the way the pattern on the front of the living room credenza is echoed in drapes. (or vice versa) Really thoughtfully done.

Love the color and the feel--true to the 60's without feeling dated or like the dentist's office you sat in as a kid. Great Sherwin Williams color--thanks for that. Have to decide which room of mine now to do over to incorporate that! Where's the rug from?

The Rug is the Chandra Faro. Normally it's $1,100, but I found it on Overstock for $400. It was such a find!

i'm not a fan of the green family of colors but this is simply wonderful.

one thing though -- i think the leather chair is too squeezed in the corner. it would be nicer if you can float it a little bit...

Heather, you should have won this contest, as yours is the best-looking room. I'll bet if we'd been able to see all entries at the same time, you'd have won. I would not be surprised to find out that the four finalists had their rooms online in the early part of the competition.

You may not have won this contest, but you had the best room.
