Color Inspiration

The room was inspired by the Water Lilies painting my husband gave me. I loved the rustic sliver frame of the painting and that’s what inspired the gray stripes on the wall. I pulled the bold purple from the painting as my accent color and the brown was used to keep the room grounded. The hardest part about planning the room was finding a way to keep it both feminine and masculine. I think all the colors used in the space can be considered gender-neutral.

Color Tips

Don’t be afraid to use colors you love! Colors can work very well together and can easily be mixed and matched. Finding the right balance between your color choices can be the key to a successful redo.

@katemail00 good eye noticing the "love Typh". Sorry I didn't get a better picture of it but it says "Lucas loves Typh". My hubby was messing around while we painted and we decided to keep the sentiment as part of the room.

I understand the gray and white isn't as bold as the other colors, but this room looks calming and relaxing which is the feeling I want when I walk in my bedroom. And the pop of purple on the chairs.. LOVE. Great room!

@lesova It's a sketch of St. Patricks Cathedral in NYC but I can so see the resemblance. If you can't find a drawing of The Sagrada Famila you can always find a great picture of it online then run it through a program like Fhotosketch to get what you're looking for. Let me know if you try it.

Very sophisticated and soothing. Is the water lilies inspiration picture shown in one of the room pictures?

Hmm, St. Patricks is now on my list of must-visit buildings :)
Good tip about the tweaking something in photoshop, etc. Might give that a try!
Great job again on such a calm room.

@Lucy (SF Bay Area) I think you can see a reflection of it in the mirror in the 2nd to last picture.

Love this--have been thinking about doing gray and white stripes for awhile and this has convinced me! What brand paint/color is the gray? Thanks.

@agraham31 The gray is from Ace Hardware...It's called Greek Column "D44-4"

it's really lovely, but I would like to see a few extra hits of those pretty purple/eggplant accent colours for some more contrast in the room.
