Erin's "Turquoise Powder Room" Bathroom

Turquoise Powder Room

Name:

Erin

Location:

Calgary, Canada

Division:

International

Colors Used

A custom mixed turquoise paint that was colour-matched to the blue flowers in the wallpaper; gold crafting paint from Michael's for the ceiling; Behr Creamy White semigloss for the trim (my fave trim colour).

Color Inspiration

I moved into my boyfriend's suburban McMansion after years of renting funky downtown apartments. His home decor was in a state of emergency, so I took it upon myself to paint and redecorate the entire place. Because he's not a big fan of over-the-top decor - or, um, *any* decor whatsoever - I kept every room very neutral... but I wanted to have fun in at least one room. And, I WANTED LOUD TURQUOISE SOMEWHERE (I'm obsessed with turquoise right now). The powder room was the obvious choice, being so small and rarely-used. I found the wallpaper in the back corner of a home decor store and nearly fainted when I saw the crazy turquoise flowers. It became the inspiration.

Color Tips

Pick a colour you absolutely love, are obsesed with, can't get enough of, and make it your inspiration - even if it's an "ugly" colour, outdated or one that doesn't seem to match anything. Who cares? You'll love it.

Arianna - It's Flowers Jacobean from Blue Mountain Wallcoverings: http://www.wallpaperstogo.com/p-21463-rqyu7yv9x.aspx

Took me a minute to find it because the rolls I had purchased had been returned to the store and had no labels. But it turns out this wallpaper brand is actually pretty prolific (one of the big Lowe's-type stores in Canada sells it, apparently). Makes it seem like slightly less of a "find" now, but I'm still madly in love with it.

Can you tell me more about the artwork? Is it just a printout placed on the wallpaper? Very cute!

It's a letterpress print I got at an Etsy store... I'll have to track it down for you. I matted it with some leftover wallpaper.

This bathroom is BEAUTIFUL. I would LOVE to have a bathroom like this one. It's colourful but not over-done (and I love the brown background). I voted.

My name's Erin and I'm from Calgary, too!!

What are your favourite home stores in Calgary, Erin? I love to visit 10th Avenue SW (Chintz & Company, Kit, Peridot, etc.) and also really like Steeling Home on 17th. And you know where else is a gem? The Value Village in South Calgary near Canyon Meadows! You can find some great stuff there!

Turquoise is one of my favorite colors. Why not use it in a bold way in a small space? Love what you did to the powder room.

Hi OtherErin from Calgary!

My favourite design store is Revolve in CrossIron Mills. I can't even walk past there without either a) drooling; b) crying, or; c) buying something way out of my price range. NOOD is a close second. And good ol' HomeSense for inexpensive accent pieces and such.

Brooke: the toilet-up picture was the 'before' picture, so of course I had to make it look as gross as possible. Ha!

Stunning wallpaper. It feels so cramped in the bathroom though. Wish you had a bigger space to play with.
