Kerry's "Deep Purple Goes Pop!" Room
Deep Purple Goes Pop!
Location:Brooklyn, New York
Dark Purple and Bright Orange, with White, Black and Taupe as the primary accent colors
I've always loved dark purple was always hesitant to use it for more than just an accent wall. However, after much deliberation, I just went for it and painted all four walls of my bedroom in my latest rental a favorite dark plum color, relegating the earthy taupe color that previously was my primary wall color to the 12" deep window sills. A great decision! The room has four huge windows and gets great light, so I awake to walls in a very saturated, dark grape color. But, once the sun goes down, I retire to a rich, relaxing and cozy room in a deep shade of plum. A bright tangerine arm chair and a few other pops of bright orange, along with curtains and bed linens in white and black, help to simultaneously offset and accentuate the rich, dark walls. Additional smaller pops of color help to keep the purple walls from ever taking themselves too seriously.
Start with a color you love, add an accent color that makes you happy, and build from there. Be brave and step outside the box a little! ... Pull secondary accent colors from your favorite pieces of wall art to keep the room's look cohesive and from rambling too far throughout the color wheel.
