There are many types of curtain rods that mount so the drapes will actually curve around the sides of the frame of the blinds. They come in different "projections"...meaning how far they come away...

A swing arm curtain rod makes the most sense to me. Shades of any kind would have to be mounted awfully high to clear the window for opening....I think that would look awkward.
