A friend of mine and I did this many years ago -- we sent a gigantic box of autumn leaves from the Berkshires to a homesick friend in Hawaii. In turn, he sent us leis in February.

I have several prints from Mike Southern -- a great guy and very talented! They are amazingly affordable, and are actual prints -- not a fancy xerox copy of a print (giclee, indeed).
