My favorite slow-cooker meals are osso bucco and a bean and vegetable stew I make with as many types of beans as I can find, and apple juice instead of water. Mmm, mmm, good.

Grilled rounds of polenta, topped with garlicky goat cheese and fresh basil from my windowsill garden.

Instead of all that butter and cream, use Yukon Gold potatoes, and mash in a cup or so of low-fat sour cream and enough low- or reduced-fat milk to get to the consistency you like.

LOVE the jars. But clear glass isn't the best way to store spices, unless you then store the jars in a dark cabinet.
