Hated this color in the 70s, hated it when it came back in the 90s, hate it again now. Green is my favorite color, but this shade has just never made me feel anything but "yuck".

I think you should go with your first instinct; a deep red would be stunning! Gorgeous contrast with the pale green, almost a Parisian look.

To each his own! From a practical standpoint (I think) I can see the appeal, but this just would not work for me aesthetically. Points for creativity though...
