I just wanted to support the OP that that is a hideous lamp. I hate and I've always hated it. It reminds me of a mummy.
If space is a concern consider a wall mounted sconce/lamp.
Our trick to cut down on the mess is to put the litter box in the bathtub. We had to do a little training to get the cat to jump in there to go. But its not a problem.
We just move it...
this is a big job-----those enviro strippers do work but not as well----i.e they take longer. You have to leave them on overnight basically as opposed to an hour or so for Jasco.

Thanks all-----the counter is from IKEA, and was like $50, the brackets were from there as well which hold it up.
We use a bamboo cutting board just to keep the counter in good condit...
