I think it's a combination of trees (from the neighbors) and vines....the wooden slat roof has vines growing all over it so it provides just the right amount of shade without blocking out too much ...

Hi, Danny here...I think the rug is from Ikea but I'll check to make sure....the space is covered with a wooden slat open roof but the center is left open, which is where the lamp hangs from...here...
