Right around the corner from my house! And across the street from my previous one!

My bathroom tiles look exactly like that, except with disgusting black mold staining every crevice. My landlord doesn't see this as a problem. I plan on caulking the darn things and hoping they don...

When I did the flowers for my wedding, the flower vendor advised me to mix half Sprite or other clear, non-diet soda to and half water for flowers. It worked beautifully, and I've been using that 5...

Not my style, but I love those windows/door opening into the small garden space.

I'm in - library card in hand!

If you want the security that home ownership brings, buy a house. Don't expect someone else to subsidize it for you. If you can't afford rents, then you either can't afford your job or where you li...

I would put two curtains on tracks that can be pulled all the way around the tub. You'd need a liner, of course, but it could be dramatic and visually appealing while still hiding the actual tub. C...

Short, hot, sweet, and to the point. I have no control over how hot the boiler is kept (live in an apartment) and thus am not going to suffer needlessly.

I think they're great! Put them side-by-side and when you're cooking, close the sink top to make space! They would be great in my apartment, anyway. Right next to a washer/dryer combo, of course.

My craigslist experience has been very hit-or-miss. In New York, there are people giving stuff away and people trying to charge a mint for used Ikea furniture or flat-out junk. You just have to sho...

I sent this to a friend who works at an art/architecture school in NYC. I hope some of the students enter! Maybe I can cadge some more ideas for my own house.

See, squeegee, us manhattanites find 1500 square feet a little frightening...all that vacuuming. :)

I am in a similar situation, with ugly light fixtures that our landlord won't let us change. Our fixtures are smaller and close to the (high) ceiling, so we just use tall lamps in the room. Is ther...

It looks like there might be some sort of glass railing. If you squint and stare. If I'm imagining the railing, I have to agree that that would be one nasty wake-up!

I would not paint the brick (landlords can get upset). I'd accent it in neutrals, although I like a warmer white tone with brick. Beautiful space!

Hm. I'm rethinking my earlier opinion: dump the cute neighbor, shack up with the exterminator. Sounds like he's going to be a bit of a fixture. Poor Amanda! That bites!

Mushroom pate is similar to fois gras and vegetarian. It's pretty good, but then I've never had the "real thing".

Does compost count? We cut out about half of our garbage production this summer by composting kitchen scraps at the community garden. Our garbage would be very messy because of coffee grounds thoug...

Congratulations! Beautiful space! I hope we get to see pictures when you are finished. Your description of what you wanted in a kitchen sort of reminded me of the pictures in a craigs...

I thought the Casch was too weird to be shabby chic. It reminded me of Matthew Barney. I like it a lot, but all that white makes me crigne: I would have tomato sauce and dust all over everything in...
