i use things like egg cartons and ice-cube trays in the drawers to store thumbtacks, paper clips, spare keys, and rubber bands. gotta have a junk drawer!
yes, i've never been a saver "for good." most of our furniture is inherited and i use my great aunt's silver every day. thrifty, yes. awesome, yes. everybody wins!
i tried this myself last year, wanting to grow moss between some path stones. turns out the area wasn't shady enough to support the moss, but i'm dying to try it again in a danker spot!
eyelight, i think you could use embroidery hoops for the 'frame' of the turquoise lamp. they have all sizes and colors at michael's. i'd try linking the small one and the large one with thin wire.

we live in virginia and have a haint-blue porch ceiling. we nonetheless always have wasps nesting in the corners!
