Guhh! I agree with a previous post, get rid of the gaudy-ass headboard and stuff and keep it simple. The room doesn't look that big to begin with and such huge-scale details will not help!

Move your bed to the other side! Not only will it get rid of the sound almost completely but it's better feng shui and you'll feel better about having your bed on an outside wall!

I don't think your problem here is the bright color, but the florescent overhead lighting! I am not sure if this is a rental, but can you install some dimmer track lighting underneath the cabinets?...
