If you like the fabric:
Pull back fabric trim which is usually tacked on, then PRIME & Paint. (Even the thicker gel stains would be a challenge to prevent dripping, running, & ruinin...
Overhead lamp is fantastic. I love how you can swing it around to suit your purposes... and presumably rotate down for spot lighting on an object or for reading, etc.
