We had plaster issues on the ceiling in our dining room and we ended up installing a "snap lock" tin ceiling to cover it up. We got the unfinished tin panels, and I finished it with a polyurethane...
It looks like a passive solar design to me.
I don't know that I would mind not having a view onto the street I live on - it really depends on the street. Without street facing window...
