I'd paint the vanity a glossy red - maybe erring on the raspberry side (instead of orangey-red). Then, I would replace the hardware with something fun/kitsc...
I'm getting nostalgic - I went to Morocco last fall and spent an entire day wandering around Jardin Majorelle - the cacti were amazing, as well as all the bright pops or orange, yellow, and blue.
In California, I'm pretty sure by law a landlord has to repaint an apartment between tenants, but I'm not sure if it's required each x number of years.

I agree the Hotel Collection is the best! I invested in several sets a few year back, and they are still amazingly fluffy and soft - and I picked white, so I just bleach them every once in a while...
