My biggest suggestion would be more lighting. It looks very dark :-\ Other than that, a nice rug, some art, and lots of plants.

It's a cool idea to have a chalkboard back splash with cool mural but I would worry constantly about it getting rubbed against by pots and pans etc.
Cool! I like! I'd want something made of thicker glass though; vases never last long in a house with cats.
Laminated art would be my choice. It might not hold off moisture forever, but it does for quite a long time.
If the Sims have to assemble it, maybe they'll get a new skill...frustration! :) Can't wait to add it to my game.
