I did a similar project where I tiled a celling, while i love the celling and get compliments on it all the time, the labor is extraordinary and I would not do it again...
I have always used baby oil to do the same trick, and for the playground try coating the slide with silicone lube kids wont know what hit them.... (of course wait for the lube to dry before sliding)
