I do this with a rag and a swiffer. I have a spray bottle full of diluted floor cleaner and I just spray and mop, then wash out the rag when I'm done. It beats going out and buying a separate mop.

My cheap solution was to cover my box spring with with an inexpensive sheet that matches my other blankets and things.
Just looking at this makes me feel uncomfortable and dizzy. I hate staircases with empty risers.
