These rooms are all totally inviting and relaxing. While a few might be on the barren side, they definitely show that "warmth" does not require bright colors.
I have an alpaca farm next door to my house--yes in Westchester, just an hour from Manhattan. The alpacas are adorable and the sweaters, etc. that they produce are amazing. They're in Yorktown:

This is perfect for low, flat ceilings. Giving the ceiling texture and depth helps to make it feel less oppressive. Also using high-gloss paint, for sheen and shimmer, helps too.
